Pappajohn, Hill and Burchett selected as Players of the Week

The Steers’ redemption of last year’s 0-10 record is well underway.

Big Spring is now 3-0 as they head into Friday’s homecoming game against Andrews and senior linebacker Max Pappajohn has played a big part of the program’s success.

“He had the big hit of the game (against Lake View) defensively,” BSHS Head Coach Phillip Ritchey said. “He is all over the field making plays and being a leader.”

Pappajohn also plays tight end on the offensive side of the ball.

Report: Vocational courses booming

Vocational training at Howard College has not only taken off, but is continuing to grow, according to the quarterly update received by the Big Spring Economic Development Corporation on Tuesday afternoon.
Kinsey Hansen, solid works representative for Howard College, reported that the summer cohort — May through August — had 31 students enrolled in 40 classes. All students completed the course, with 17 who have identified that their courses led to employment. Fall enrollment shows 68 students in 147 vocational training classes.

Coming home to Ackerly; Sands plans celebration

ACKERLY — The exes are coming home to Sands High School this week.
Sands will hold its quadrennial homecoming festivities, culminating with Friday night’s football vs. Highland.
As with many other high schools in the area, Sands will have themed “dress up days” leading up to the weekend, when the majority of homecoming activities are scheduled:
• The school’s drama club will hold a spaghetti supper from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday in the school cafeteria

Shirleen Knox

Shirleen Knox, 58, of Big Spring died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at her residence. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, at Spring Creek Fellowship.
She was born Dec. 18, 1953, in Midland, Texas, to Frances and Hal Davis. She married Burl Knox on Dec. 17, 1987, in Big Spring. She has been a lifetime resident of Midland and Howard counties.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• BRANDON DAKOTA FEASTER, 20, of 1308 Ridgeroad, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.
• TONYA LADAWN YAGER, 41, of 1904 Alabama, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for no driver’s license – when unlicensed and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
• BLAKE MICHAEL GEE, 30, of 512 Scott Dr., was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
