FORT STOCKTON — The Big Spring Steers stunned a lot of people Friday with a 49-0 shellacking of the Fort Stockton Panthers. The big victory snapped a 12-game losing streak for BSHS and doubtless instilled confidence in Head Coach Phillip Ritchey and his squad.
Tobyn Tannehill, the sophomore sibling of the Miami Dolphins' quarterback Ryan Tannehill, went 11-of-14 passing and racked up 239 yards as well as rushed for 36 yards in his first varsity start.
The first seven Steer possessions were all driven down the field for touchdowns — all with Tannehill at the helm.
An accident left one man dead early Friday morning just north of Big Spring.
An 18-wheeler and a motorcycle collided about a half mile north of Interstate 20 on U.S. Highway 87 about 6 a.m.
According to Department of Public Safety, the victim — driver of the motorcycle — is 30-year-old Nathaniel Meyer. Unconfirmed reports state that Meyer was not wearing a helmet upon impact with the 18-wheeler.
No injuries were reported in regard to the truck driver. Due to the accident, northbound traffic was blocked off for several hours.

Members of the BSFD stood at the intersection on Gregg Street in hopes of raising funds in the battle against muscular dystrophy.

All funds raised Saturday will remain local and provide support for families dealing with muscular dystrophy — a group of inherited disorders involving muscle weakness and loss of muscle tissue, which progressively can get worse over time.
