Sue Balios, 76, of Big Spring died Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2012, at her residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
December 10th
Donald Lee Elwell, born Dec. 14, 1951, in Winnemucca, Nev., passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at East Fourth Street Baptist Church in Big Spring.
Walter "Tommy" Ledbetter, 86, of Buchanan Dam, formerly of Stanon, died on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, in an Austin hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Stanton with the Rev. David Harp officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the funeral home.
Tommy was born June 26, 1926 in Scranton, Texas, and served in the United States Navy onboard the USS Rosewood in World War II.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• HOLSTON BANKS III, 21, of 1905 Donley, was arrested Sunday on a charge of harboring a runaway child.
• MARIA C. HERNANDEZ, 26, OF HOBBS, N.M., was arrested Sunday on a warrant from another agency.
• JOSE ANGEL CASTILLO, 57, of 3500 E. Interstate Highway 20, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated – second offense.
The Big Spring City Council is expected to approve the emergency reading of a resolution moving the city from State 3 to Stage 2 of the municipality's drought contingency plan during its Tuesday meeting, making water conservation by city customers voluntary instead of mandatory.
The city has been in Stage 3 of its drought contingency plan for several months now, since the Colorado City Municipal Water District made multiple restrictions to water consumption by its municipal customers due to the extremely low levels of its water reservoirs.

FORSAN — School trustees here hope to hire a contractor to oversee renovation of the high school field house when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the administration wing board room.
Forsan Independent School District officials included $1 million in this year's budget to pay for the renovation, which is expected to begin sometime next spring.
Software will be on the minds of Howard County commissioners Monday morning, as the court meets to discuss a number items, including a possible upgrade to the programs used by county departments at the courthouse.
Commissioners are expected to discuss — and possibly take action — regarding a proposed upgrade to the computer systems utilized by a number of different county offices. According to county officials, the upgrade would help bring the systems more up-to-date, as well as allow different departments to better share information and data.
Juana Louise Osborn, 92, of Big Spring went home to be with her Lord, Friday, Dec. 7, 2012. Her services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Nalley, Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 25, 1919 in Hamby, Texas. She married D.M. (Dock) Osborn Na. 17, 1938 in Albany, Texas. He preceded her in death on November 8, 1982.
Stephen “Steve” Johnson, 51, of Big Spring died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of Eastside Baptist Church, officiating.
He was born Dec. 4, 1961, in France to Muriel and Charles Johnson. He worked most of his life in the oilfield. He also worked for B&E Roustabout and Robert Wash. He lived most of his life in Howard County and was a Baptist.
