LEVELLAND â Howard College Men's Basketball Coach Mark Adams isn't much one for moral victories, but even he saw a little bit of a silver lining in the Hawks' nail-bitingly close loss to top-ranked South Plains Monday night.
The Hawks pushed South Plains down to the wire â almost to the last second, actually â before finally dropping a 65-62 decision in Western Junior College Athletic Conference action.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
âą DERRICK DAMOND WILBERT, 31, of 404 Circle St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid â no insurance.
âą DAVID ORTIZ GONZALES JR., 32, of 4617 Ash St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
âą ROBERT GARDNER LYNCH JR., 51, of 300 Veterans Blvd., was arrested Sunday on charges of resisting arrest, search or transportation and public intoxication.
Fred Ramos Terrazas Sr., 85, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, at a local hospice unit in Midland. He is survived by his children, Fred âLuckyâ Terrazas Jr, Nicholas Terrazas, Albert Terrazas, Yolanda Martinez, Joann Perez, and Linda Flores; brothers, Felix Terrazas and Manuel Terrazas; sisters, Rosa Espinoza and Mary Vargas; 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Donald Herff McGonagill
Donald Herff McGonagill, 84, of Big Spring, passed away Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in San Angelo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lindsey and the Rev. Mike Couch of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at the funeral home.
Don was born Feb. 16, 1927, in Melvin, Texas, to Herff and Floy (Farnsworth) McGonagill.
Omega Hernandez, 80, of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
She was born June 13, 1931, in Rotan to Epifania Alcala Galan and Felix Galan. She attended schools in Roby and graduated in 1949. She attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and graduated from Draughonâs Business College in Abilene in 1954.
Thomas Abbott Decell went peacefully home to his Lord and Savior Friday, Jan. 27, 2012, at 6:21 p.m. He was born Oct. 30, 1932, in Brookhaven, Miss., to Thomas and Mary Lee (Abbott) Decell.
For the ninth time in a row, the Big Spring High School Debate team brought home the University Interscholastic League District Cross-Examination Debate crown.
Bringing home the gold was the team of Seth Trevino and Caleb Gonzales.
âWinning district and going to the UIL CX State Meet is awesome, but Iâm also glad that I could continue the tradition of district champions here at BSHS.â Trevino said.
Joining Trevino and Gonzales at the state meet will be the team of Forrest McJunkin and Shiloh Creswell. This will be Creswellâs second year attending the meet.

Billy Joe Burleson, 55, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Jerome McNally, pastor of New Life Ministries Church of God in Christ, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Hamlin East Cemetery in Hamlin, Texas.
He was born July 24, 1956, in Hamlin, Texas, to Rosie Lee and James Burleson. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. He moved to Big Spring in 1990 from Hamlin. He was a member of Christ Community Fellowship.
