GARDEN CITY, Texas â€” A Harlingen man was killed Tuesday afternoon when a high-pressure line on the oil well he was working on southwest of Garden City exploded, releasing water and acid, according to law enforcement officials.
Noe Cabriales, 51, of Harlingen, was pronounced dead at the scene by Glasscock County Justice of the Peace Kay Donna Machicek shortly after 12:30 p.m. at an oil well being operated by Laredo Petroleum Inc.
Election time is drawing near for the Big Spring Independent School District.
During the upcoming board of trustees meeting, set for Thursday in the high school board room at 5:15 p.m., one of the action items on the agenda is the school board trustee election order and appointments for the May 12 election.
Three positions on the board are up for election, District 2, represented by Maria Padilla, District 3, held by Ken McIntosh, and District 4, held by Tony Kennedy.

â€˘ MARILYN MARIE MENDEZ, 41, of 3509 E. Interstate Highway 20 Apt. 20, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ KYLE WADE GUTHRIE, 27, of 408 W. Hillside Dr., was booked into the county jail Tuesday by the BSPD on a charge of online solicitation of a minor â€“ intent sexual activity.
â€˘ WENDY ANN THOMAS, 33, of 620 State, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
Matthew David Jones of Odessa, 26, passed away Thursday morning Feb. 2, 2012, while sleeping peacefully at home.
Before falling into ill health, Matt was an exceptionally energetic young man with the world at his fingertips. Handsome, smart, strong, entertaining, and funny are some of the words used to describe him when he was at his best.
Matthew received Jesus as his Savior at an early age. He worshiped at Antioch Christian Church and Crossroads.
Yvette (Scudday) Jiles, 70, of Cedar Park, Texas, passed away Feb. 6, 2012. She was born Feb. 27, 1941, in Seagraves, Texas, to the late Marshall Vernon and Virginia Jane (Craig) Scudday.
Yvette grew up on Possum Kingdom Lake, working at her familyâ€™s fishing camp, Possum Hollow Camp. She had a love for education and children. Yvette taught for 32 years, spending the majority of those years at Coahoma Elementary School. During that time, she returned to school and received a masters in education.
Yvette was a loving mother, grandmother and sister, and she will be greatly missed.
William N. "Bill" Currie, 57, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, in a local hospital. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born May 16, 1954, in Big Spring, Texas.
Bill graduated from Big Spring High School and then attended Howard College. He was a fourth generation rancher on the Currie Ranch in Glasscock County. Bill and his brother Jerry John Currie raised Angus cattle and award-winning show calves.
He was a Methodist.
Jimmy Newsom, 80, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Feb, 7, 2012, in a local nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Gail Whitney Legg, 94, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
LeRoy Headrick, 87, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, in a local nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
The Big Spring Steers had a drama-free solution to a suspenseful situation.
The Steers left little doubt as to their qualifications for the state basketball playoffs Tuesday by taking a 61-44 win over Snyder that clinched a postseason berth for Big Spring.
Also Tuesday, the Big Spring Lady Steers closed out the regular season with 55-42 win over Snyder.
Heading into Tuesday's game, the Steers knew that if they won, they would clinch the last playoff spot from District 5-3A. Lose, however, and they could have missed the postseason altogether.
