Local public school officials are looking at a standardized dress code as one way to help improve the learning environment at Big Spring secondary campuses.
Big Spring Independent School District officials trustees vigorously debated the idea during their monthly meeting at the high school board room Thursday night.
Proponents of a standardized dress code said the plan, which would effect students in grades 6 through 12, would help build a better learning environment at the junior high and high school.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
• STEVE RODRIGUEZ, 30, of 2110 Runnels, was arrested Thursday on a charge of harassment.
• CURTIS DEWAYNE WOODRUFF, 26, of 214 N. Johnson, was arrested Thursday on warrants for manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone (two counts), no driver's license – when unlicensed and a warrant from another agency.
• MANUEL GONZALES, 23, of 1101 Grafa, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for accumulated items/weeds/rubbish.
Charles “Charlie” Trantham, 60, of Big Spring died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with Chaplain Walter McCall officiating.
He was born May 29, 1951, in Germany. He lived in Big Spring most of his life. He was a truck driver for a moving company and was a member of the Church of Christ.
There are no known survivors.

Goats and lambs took the stage Wednesday during the Howard County Junior Livestock Show.
In the goat division there were two classes in each weight division. Coahoma FFA member Emilee Custer was named light weight division champion. She entered two goats, one in the Class 1, which took first place and weighed 64 pounds and the other in the Class 2 which placed fourth and weighed 75 pounds.
FORSAN — School district trustees here are expected to approve the appointment of a School Health Advisory Council when they hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. tonight in the administration wing board room.
SHACs are appointed to review and make recommendations on a wide variety of health-related activities, said Randy Johnson, Forsan Independent School District superintendent.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• ZABRINA FREEMAN LOZANO, 25, of 1302 Tucson, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated – blood alcohol more than 0.15.
• KENDRA LYNN HARRISON, 41, of 605 S. Abrams, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for nuisance – animal repeatedly at large, driving while license invalid, failure to appear and a warrant from another agency.
• BRYANT ANTHONY PARRISH, 22, of 805 Crighton, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft 0 more than $500 and less than $1,500.
Alvah Ruth Hollis, 80, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Eddy Pitchford officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lamesa Memorial Park in Lamesa with Dr. David Ward officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, at the funeral home.
She was born Dec. 27, 1931, in Lamesa and married Raymond "Sonny" Hollis on Aug. 1, 1960, in Lamesa.
Glen R. Overton, 80, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with the family receiving friends immediately following the service. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born June 2, 1931, in Big Spring to Fannie and James Overton. He worked in construction in Arizona for 35 years. He married Frances Edens on Oct. 9, 1993. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Elisa Ann Hart, 36, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel.
She was born in New Orleans, La., on Dec. 5, 1975, was raised in Kenner, La., and has been a resident of Big Spring, Texas, since 2002. She was a Catholic.
