Sergio Hernandez Gonzalez, 32, of Forsan died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Sergio was born Oct. 7, 1980, in Mexico, and married Melissa Daniels on March 22, 2008, in Big Spring. He came here at the age of 9 and attended Big Spring schools. He was working for Robinson Drilling as a derrick hand.

Dennis Richardson, 59, of Big Spring died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Big Spring. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Gary Plew officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Dennis was born Jan. 4, 1953, in Big Spring and graduated from Big Spring High School. He then graduated from TSTI in Sweetwater. He has worked in the oilfield all his life and was a great Dad and "Paw Paw."

Frank 'Porky' Overton

Frank “Porky” Overton, 28, of Big Spring died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, in Big Spring. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Myers & Smith Chapel with the Rev. Derek Looney, pastor of Spring Creek Fellowship, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Frank was born Feb. 5, 1984, in Big Spring, Texas, to Hassona and Donald Max Overton. He was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. He was a driller for Robinson Drilling at the time of his death.

3 killed in Highway 87 collision

December 14, 2012

Three Howard County residents were killed Thursday morning when the SUV they were traveling in was hit by an oilfield pumper truck near the intersection of FM 846 and U.S. Highway 87.

According to officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety, the accident was reported at 5:18 a.m. at the intersection, located approximately 10 miles from Big Spring.

Festival of Lights opens Saturday

Light the lights.

Comanche Trail Park will be transformed to a Christmas wonderland starting Saturday when the Festival of Lights begins its annual holiday run.

Hundreds of exhibits featuring more than a million lights will be on display. Themes range from traditional holiday scenes to patriotic displays, with a little West Texas flavor thrown in for good measure, organizers promise.

Ruth Oppegard, 91, of Big Spring died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park.
Ruth was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Pennsylvania to Irene and William McBeth. She was a veteran of the army during World War II, serving in the Air Corps. She married Moran Oppegard on Oct. 4, 1945, in Raleigh, N.C. He preceded her in death Jan. 14, 2004. She was a homemaker and a member of Alive In Christ Lutheran Church.
