The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
â˘ HEATHER AMANDA EDWARDS, 33, of Midland, Texas, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
â˘ ALEXANDER QUINTANA, 32, of 1505 Robin, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of disorderly conduct â language.
The Howard County Sheriffâs Office reported the following activity:

Despite having a night figuratively blown away by a dust storm, a record number of attendees visited the 2012 Comanche Trail of Lights Christmas exhibit
More than 23,000 visitors drove through the exhibit during its two-week run, which ended Monday, said Pat Simmons, longtime chairperson of the festival committee.
âIt wasn't the 25,000 I was hoping for, but we're doing better and getting closer,â Simmons said.
Tickets are on sale now for those wanting to celebrate the fourth anniversary of Healthy Woman with a special speaker and in a special venue later this month.
The event, which will include a health and fitness expo and a catered dinner, will be held Jan. 24 in the Hotel Settles. Tickets are $40 each.
Healthy Woman is a Scenic Mountain Medical Center program which specifically targets women and gets them focused on themselves so they are able to take care of the loved ones in their lives. Of course, the Jan. 24 anniversary event is open to men, too.
Vernon Permenter, 63, of Big Spring died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Olive Memorial Park with Dr. Doug Shelley, pastor of East Side Baptist Church, officiating.
The Rev. J.B. Shewmake, a.k.a. "The Little Dutchman," 78, formerly of Tarzan, Texas, departed from this world and was received into heaven Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring. Interment to follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring.
Mrs. Billy Carl "Ruth" Bates of Coahoma, Texas, passed away to be with her Lord on Dec. 31, 2012, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Howard County beginning in 1955 and was a member of the Coahoma United Methodist Church for the duration of that time.
Nellie Ruth Backlin (Bates) was born Oct. 20, 1918, in Oakes, N.D., to Swedish immigrant parents. She was the eldest of five children born to Fredolf and Anna Backlin. She attended school at the Verner Community one-room country school house near the family farm through the eighth grade.
Mary F. Burt, 87, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Cotton officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born Nov. 7, 1925, in Snyder, Texas, and married Jimmy G. Burt on Feb. 28, 1946, in Snyder, Texas. He preceded her in death Nov. 23, 2009.
