Ginger Silva poses with baby Miles â€” Scenic Mountain Medical Centerâ€™s first baby of the year. The boy, born Jan. 4, weighs 6 pounds, 1 ounce, and is 19-3/4 inches in length. Ginger, Miles and dad Juan are residents of Forsan. Grandparents are Benny and Kathy Pickett and Antonio and Elisa Silva, all of Big Spring.
Marguerite Haddad, 91, of Big Spring died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, in a local hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Jimmie O. Huitt, 96, of Big Spring died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Cotton, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the funeral home.
He was born June 19, 1916, in Eastland, Texas, and married Vera Mae McCarty on May 22, 1937, in Big Spring, Texas. She preceded him in death Jan. 15, 1997.
Luella Groth Arnold passed away Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Midland, Texas. She was born to Wesley Charles Groth and Emma Antonia Walters Groth on March 6, 1918, in Waco, Texas. Luella attended Waco High School and Dallas Business School.
She married Edwin F. Arnold on Aug. 10, 1946, in Dallas, Texas. She worked as a bookkeeper for several years in Dallas. Luella was a loving wife and mother. From earliest childhood, Luella loved the Lord. She gave her heart to Christ at age 10 and had a strong faith all of her life. Luella loved art, family, putting puzzles together and canning.
Gerald F. â€śJerryâ€ť Anderson, 70, of Big Spring died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Scenic Mountain Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Jim Binnix of Midway Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ SUSAN MICHELLE SALAZAR, 30, of 1902 Mittel Ave., was arrested Sunday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
â€˘ TINA MARIE AUSBIE, 25, of 1100 Pickens, was arrested Sunday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
â€˘ PATRICIA ANN BACON, 40, of 5700 Cedar Rd., was arrested Sunday on two warrants from other agencies and a charge of failure to identify as a fugitive â€“ giving false information.
The Big Spring City Council is expected to hear first reading of a new traffic ordinance that would allow police officers to issue citations to motorists making a â€śdisplay of accelerationâ€ť or a rapid start, leaving a legal middle ground created several years ago when state law changed.
The new ordinance, which would be added to Section 18-78 entitled Racing and Exhibition of Acceleration, would make it unlawful for any person to race or otherwise cause a motor vehicle to make a rapid start or acceleration on a roadway.
