Almost 200 Howard County families are depending on you for a merry Christmas.
That's roughly the number of people who have applied for the Salvation Army's annual Angel Tree program, which solicits Christmas gifts for needy children and seniors in this area.
Ada Lafler of the local Salvation Army office said 133 families registered their children for the program, while about 50 seniors applied.
â€śActually, that number is a little bit more than last year,â€ť Lafler said.
Don't know what to do with that ancient computer or that out-of-date printer? Put a green thumb on it, so to speak.
The city of Big Spring and Keep Big Spring Beautiful will team up for their annual e-waste collection Friday and Saturday at the city landfill on East FM 700.
Olga Godina, 54, of Big Spring, died Monday Nov. 4, 2013, at her home after a long battle with cancer. Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Thursday at East Fourth Baptist Church.
She was born May 24, 1959 to Esperanza and Pablo Escobar in Levelland, Texas. She had been a resident of Big Spring for 16 years, moving to the community from Brownfield. She was a Catholic and a homemaker.
Louise â€śNanaâ€ť Booth, 89, of Big Spring, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 in a Midland, Texas, hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
She was born June 4, 1924, in McKinney, Texas, and married Ed Booth Feb. 7, 1942, in Weatherford, Texas. He preceded her in death Nov. 14, 2000.
Jessi Henry, 61, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at his residence. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & welch Funeral Home & Crematory.
