An icy storm that started in the West and is blamed in at least 10 fatal accidents was bringing a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain to parts of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas on Monday as it trudged eastward in the run-up to Thanksgiving.
Howard County was hard-hit by the storm system, also. Several traffic accidents and isolated power outages were reported and all area public schools cancelled classes today.
In addition, Howard College officials announced classes will begin at 10 a.m. today.
Because of icy conditions, officials at Big Spring, Coahoma and Forsan school districts announced early today that Monday classes have been cancelled.
Also, Howard College will not be holding classes today. The college's trustee meeting, scheduled for 12:30 p.m., has been cancelled as well.
Texas Department of Transportation officials urges motorists to use caution when traveling on icy roads, which have been the cause of several accidents this past weekend. More than eight deaths statewide have been blamed on road conditions, TxDOT officials said.
