One person died in a two-vehicle accident in northern Howard County Thursday afternoon.
Antonio Zavala Martinez, 51, of Big Spring was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by Justice of the Peace Bennie Green, according to Department of Public Safety Trooper Marc Couch. The accident occurred on FM 669 (Gail Highway) near FM 700.
Santa is missing.
Festival of Lights volunteers are hoping someone has some information about the grinch who took St. Nick from Comanche Trail Park around Christmas Eve. Project Manager Howard Stewart first noticed that the display was missing during a 6 p.m. check of the park on Tuesday.
The missing piece was one of four scenes in a display set up by the Big Spring State Hospital. The scenes date to the 1950s and 1960s when they were displayed at Christmastime in downtown stores such as Hemphill-
Wells and Swartz & Carter Furniture, said Pat Simmons, Festival founder.
Willie Ruth Barber, 83, of Big Spring, Texas went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013. Her husband, Hubert Barber, passed away in November 2012. The two were reunited in a Christmas celebration.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Eddie Prince officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
Margarette Hudson, 90, of Big Spring died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
She was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Lauderdale County, Tenn. to Mary and Neil McNeill. She married Ray Edward Hudson on April 5, 1947, in Jacksonville, Fla. He preceded her in death June 2009. She moved to Big Spring five years ago from Odessa. She was a homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
San Juana âJanieâ Martinez Rogers, 63, of Fort Worth, formerly of Big Spring, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
She was born June 23, 1950, in Sinton to Guadalupe and Federico Martinez. She lived most of her life in Big Spring prior to moving to Fort Worth. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.
