BRIDGEPORT â€” Big Spring won its first two games Friday, handily defeating Fort Worth Southwest Christian 61-39 and then edging Saginaw Chisholm Trail 52-47 to open the Bridgeport Christmas Tournament.
Tyler Wigington was top scorer for the Steers in the first game with 18 points. Tate Kennedy had a season-high nine points in the same game. Ty Sealy led BSHS in Game Two with a game-high 21 points.

Trista Casey and Brandy Hubbard are happy to announce their engagement and forthcoming marriage. Trista is the daughter of Marvin and Debra Casey and granddaughter of Jerold and Betty Cox and Monroe Casey and Jackie Curtis. Trista graduated with an associates degree in science in dental hygiene in 2009 at Howard College. Brandy is the son of Cindy James and grandson of Eugene and Barbara Bryant. Brandy graduated with a degree in welding and fabrication in 2011 at Midland College. The wedding will be held Jan. 4, 2014, at The Courtyard in Big Spring. The couple will reside in Big Spring.

Claude Murphy, 80, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Sharon Mathews, 55, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at University Medical Center in Lubbock. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel.
She was born Dec. 23, 1958, in Hearn, Texas, to Jewel and Ulysses Mathews. She was a homemaker and a waitress. She was a member of West HWY 80 Church of Christ, and was a lifetime resident of Big Spring.
Antonio â€śTonyâ€ť Zavala-Martinez, 51, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in Howard County. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born April 1, 1962, in Mexico to Evangelina and Jose Jesus Zavala-Martinez. He moved to Howard County 32 years ago from Mexico. He married Maria Luisa Martinez on Oct. 21, 1984, in Lamesa. He was employed by the Texas Department of Public Safety and was a member of Lighthouse Restoration Center.
Mary Spraberry, 77, died Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at San Angelo Community Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Life Church with Kevin Knudson officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.

Construction continues on the long-term care nursing facility located at the corner of Alamesa and Wasson early Saturday. Shawn Stevens with DNL Construction is one of more than 20 workers on site. Completion of the project has yet to be determined.
Michael L. Kiefer, who has served in various executive leadership positions, has been appointed as the new director of the West Texas VA Healthcare System.
