Icy conditions prompt rash of cancellations

A storm system carrying freezing rain began moving through the Crossroads area today, turning roads dangerously slick and forcing the cancellation of several events.

Up to a half-inch of freezing rain is forecast to coat area roads today as a result of the storm, which is expected to keep temperatures well below the freezing mark through most the weekend.

Chamber toy drive under way locally

The Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce is currently conducting its 2nd annual Toy drive to assist five area organizations wich will distribute the donations throughout the community.

“This is something we started last year,” said Debbye ValVerde, Chamber executive director. “We had several organizations we knew needed help, especially the Salvation Army. We don’t want any child to do without.”

Harold Hall, 92, of Big Spring, Texas died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Ken McIntosh, minister of First Christian Church, officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
