Bertha Mae Jolley

December 7, 2013

Bertha Mae Jolley, 85, of Big Spring, died Tuesday Dec. 3, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Memorial Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Ulysses Mathews of West Highway 80 Church of Christ officiating.
She was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Waurika, Okla. She spent most of her life in Howard County. She was very active in her church and worked in Nursing Services for the Big Spring State Hospital for many years. She was a cook in Big Spring at different restaurants as well as the original Settles Hotel.

BSHS band to perform Sunday

Icy weather may have delayed Santa's busy weekend in the Crossroads area but the public can still kick off the season with a little Christmas cheer.
The Big Spring High School band will hold its annual Christmas concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the high school auditorium. The program will include a selection of Christmas songs and this will also be the last time for the public to hear the band's award winning marching program which includes selections from the musical “Tommy.”

Dr. May on campaign trail in Big Spring

Dr. Donald R. May, who is seeking the Republican nomination in the upcoming District 19 U.S. congressional race, will hold a town hall meeting in Big Spring Monday evening.

Hall, who is challenging Republican incumbent Randy Neugebauer, will conduct the town hall meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the Cactus Room of Howard College's student union building.

He is approximately 4 months old. Sinatra is a lover, he loves to be petted. He is non aggressive towards other dogs and people. Sinatra loves children, also. His fur is the softest fur that you will ever pet. Sinatra got his name because he has one very blue eye.

Navy Master Chief Petty Officer Priscilla Kirsh, daughter of Patricia Richter, of Lamesa, Texas, recently reenlisted for four years of active Naval service while serving aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN75). Kirsh is a 1988 graduate of Lamesa High School in Lamesa.

First United Methodist Living Christmas Tree performance still a go

Officials with the First United Methodist Church plan to go ahead with its performance of the Living Christmas Tree set for Saturday and Sunday nights. No official decision has been made as of yet but officials said it was very likely the Saturday performance will go on as planned.

Performances are at 8 p.m. both days. Tickets for the 35th annual presentation are free; its a gift to Big Spring and the surrounding area from First United Methodist Church.

Herald postpones parade due to weather - area closures

The Big Spring Herald has postponed its annual community Christmas parade for Saturday because of icy conditions and incliment weather.

The following are a list of other activities:
• VAMC lightening ceremony - canceled
• Canterbury Bazaar - postponed
• Heritage Museum Breakfast with Santa, moved to Dec. 14
• DRA Christmas on Main St. - postponed

The following institutions have closed today due to inclement weather:

• Big Spring ISD - closed
• Coahoma ISD - closed
• Forsan ISD - closed

Howard College has closed. Classes are suspended.
