Big Spring is in the news big time these days.
The March edition of Texas Monthly, which hit sales racks this week, has a feature on the Hotel Settles. Titled 'Up With the Old Hotel: How a Fabulously Wealthy Son of Big Spring Came Home to Save the Settles,' the article covers both Brint Ryan's financial expertise and his successful renovation of the West Texas landmark. The story is written by Bryan Mealer.
The best young singers in Big Spring will be in concert Tuesday when the All-City Choir performs at Big Spring High School.
The choir, composed of select Big Spring Independent School District fourth and fifth graders from Goliad, Marcy, Moss and Washington elementary schools, will take the stage at the high school auditorium at 7 p.m.
Judith Ayer, assistant choral director at Big Spring High School and organizer of Tuesday's event, said children were selected for the choir based on more than just their singing ability.
The Howard County Sheriff's Office reported the following activity (68 prisoners were reported in the county jail):
• RYAN ANTHONY GONZALES, 23, was jailed on a charge of criminal mischief over $50 but less than $500.
• JAMES CRAIG NORMAN, 45, was jailed on a charge of reckless driving.
• KRYSTAL M. CERVANTES, 24, was jailed on warrants charging bail jumping, failure to appear, no seat belt and a warrant from another agency.
• THEODORE DIAZ JR., 40, was jailed on a federal probation violation warrant.

Melvin A Porter, M.D., passed gallantly from this world into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ on Feb. 11, 2013. He left the same way in which he lived: peacefully and full of dignity. In his final hours, he was surrounded by family who read to him his favorite Psalms and scriptures, sang hymns and covered him in prayer.
Fernando Apolinar "Poli" Rodriguez, 21, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park, Big Spring, Texas.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory, Big Spring, Texas.
Robert D. Bradshaw, 79, of Big Spring, died Friday, Feb. 22, 2013 in a Midland nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Four years after going their separate ways, the Big Spring based musical group Crimson Soul will reunite for a final performance.
Featuring solo performances by Brandon Ray, Cody Carnes and the Adrian Calvio band, the group will be in concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 1, in the Big Spring Municipal Auditorium.
Tickets are $10 each and available at the Big Spring Convention and Visitors Bureau, KBYG, KBST, Adrian Calvio State Farm Insurance and Big Spring City Hall. If available, tickets will also be sold at the door on the night of the concert.
