Howard County commissioners will meet with an Austin-based law firm during a special meeting Friday morning as the court looks to deal with growing pains in the Crossroads area.
During the meeting — slated for 9 a.m. Friday — commissioners will confer with Charles R. Kimbrough, an attorney with Bickerstaff Heath Delgado Acosta LLP, the same law firm which helped county officials in preparation for the 2007 bond election to fund the construction of the Howard County Detention Center.
Area youth will have the chance to drown a few worms — and win prizes — Saturday, as the Greater Big Spring Rotary Club presents its fifth annual Fishing Contest for Boys and Girls.
Slated for 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Comanche Trail Lake, the competition is open to youth 17 years and younger, according to event coordinator Ken McIntosh.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• SHAWNA DAWN GRAYSON, 41, of 3905 E. Interstate Highway 20 Apt. 10A, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency and a charge of shoplifting – more than $50 and less than $500.
• SHAWN CARR II, 32, of 2504 Gunter, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency and a charge of failure to identify as a fugitive – giving false information.
• TRAVIS ALLEN MELTON III, 32, of 407 S. Lancaster, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for forgery of a financial instrument.
Edward Reeves Moren, 85, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating.
Reeves was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Breckenridge, Texas, and married Elizabeth Smith on Sept. 19, 1954, in Texarkana, Ark.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a member of the Epworth Sunday School Class. He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, graduating with a degree in chemical engineering and played football for Tech.
Lucretia “Lou” Hill, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at her residence. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Ken McMeans, pastor of College Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born Feb. 3, 1926, in Cosesco, Miss., to Pearl and Marion Taylor. She married Jerry B. Hill on July 31, 1954, in Pecos. They moved to Coahoma in 1971 and then to Big Spring in 1977. Jerry preceded her in death April 3, 1991.
Funeral services for Delbert Joe Davidson, 76, of Cleburne, Texas, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Rio Vista, Texas, with the Rev. Neale Oliver officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Pinyan. Burial will follow in Rio Vista Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Rosser Funeral Home.
Mr. Davidson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Big Spring, Texas, Dec. 5, 1936, the son of L.J. and Jennie Lou (Curtis) Davidson.
Sapopa Salazar, 96, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Vigil services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Alpine, Texas. She married Bonifacio Salazar in Big Spring. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Harold D. Bentley, 90, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in a local nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
