A fire at an undisclosed location on the Alon USA Big Spring Refinery sent at least one person to the hospital Sunday night, according to local officials and unconfirmed reports.
Reports of an explosion at the Big Spring Refinery began circulating through the city and social media sites Sunday night at approximately 9 p.m. Big Spring Fire Chief Craig Ferguson confirmed shortly after that a fire had been reported at the local facility, however, there were no explosions.
Becky Hughes Gaston, 75, of Big Spring died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Calvary Callender and Don Swinney officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at the funeral home.
Billy "Pete" Laminack, 82, of Colorado City died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at his residence. Private family services will be held at a later date.
He was born July 6, 1930, in Mangum, Okla. He married Joyce Littlepage on July 25, 1958, in Odessa, Texas. She preceded him in death Oct. 6, 2004. He then married Terri Couch on Aug. 8, 2006.
Pete was a truck driver for 41 years and had worked for J.H. Marks, McAlister's in Abilene, as well as being an independent operator.
Truell Wayne Hyde, 85, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, in Big Spring, Texas. Family Visitation will be held between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at the Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home at 1615 South Fort Hood Road in Killeen, Texas. A Celebration service will be held at Memorial Baptist Church at 4001 West Trimmier Road in Killeen at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, with the Rev. Ken Cavey officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park.
Lois Hicks, 67, of Stanton died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Stanton Nursing Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
A murder indictment against a Big Spring man was among more than 30 true bills returned by a Howard County grand jury this week.
Christopher Daniel Marquez, 19, who is currently in the Howard County Jail, was hit with three indictments for his alleged role in an October shooting that left one man dead and another wounded.
Luis Adolfo Pena, 33, died Oct. 27, 2012 from a gunshot wound he received earlier in the day.
The Four Chaplain Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church, 705 W FM 700.
The memorial service honors and remembers the Veterans who passed away in 2012. The Legion of Honor award will be presented to three individuals who have given outstanding service to our Veterans during this past year.
Local VA Medical Center officials encourage all family members of veterans who passed away to be present and welcome the community to come and attend the memorial service.

â€¢ RIANNON HENSON MELTON, 28, of 2406 S. Monticello, was arrested Friday on warrants for resisting arrest, search or transport and disregarding a red light.
â€¢ MICHAEL ALLERY WEIST, 31, of California, was arrested Saturday on a charge of no drivers license when unlicensed.
Shirley Marie Wyrosdick Cline, 54, of Big Spring, formerly of Colorado City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She had recently retired as laboratory supervisor from Scenic Mountain Medical Center in Big Spring after 17 years on the job. As a single mother, Shirley raised two sons. She was strongly involved in Scouting, acting as den leader of her sons' Cub Scout Den in Colorado City and helping out with Boy Scout Troop 100 while her sons were in the Scouting program.
Dale Soles, 69, of Big Spring died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 11:00 am Monday at Trinity Memorial Park.
He was born May 14, 1943, in Colorado City, Texas to Myrl and Lewis Soles. He married Joyce Soles on April 2, 1968 in Big Spring. He worked as a contract pumper in the oilfield and was a ham radio operator in Colorado City.
