Time is running out for residents with arrest warrants and fines to avoid a trip to the slammer, as local law enforcement and courts get ready to participate in a warrant roundup Saturday.
Part of a statewide effort to help municipalities and other government agencies tackle the growing number of arrest warrants being issued, Big Spring Municipal Judge Tim Green said every effort has been made to contact those with warrants and get the matters cleared up before the handcuffs get slapped on.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ FRANKIE LOPEZ JUAREZ, 43, of 1008 N.W. Second St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant for criminal mischief.
â€¢ NAOMI RENEE VILLA, 25, of 2508 Langley, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for assault by contact.
â€¢ JOHN QUINN TIDWELL, 60, of 1800 S. Lancaster, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€¢ MARCUS MENDEZ III, 19, of 1511 Johnson, was arrested Thursday on warrants for failure to control speed and public intoxication by a minor.
Sapopa Salazar, 96, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Vigil services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Alpine, Texas. She married Bonifacio Salazar in Big Spring. He preceded her in death in 1982. She spent most of her life in Big Spring. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was very active.
Harold D. Bentley, 90, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Don Brodie officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
Albert Fulcher, 78, of Elk City, Okla., formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in Clinton, Okla. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with burial at Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home. The Hawks have been eliminated from postseason play, but went out with their heads held high after a 55-38 victory over Frank Phillips College on Thursday at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum.
Tori Tucker scored a game-high 21 points, while Destinee Thrash added eight and Teiona Tarrant chipped in seven for the Hawks.
It was a bittersweet end to a year full of obstacles for Head Coach Earl Diddle â€” who dealt with the loss of multiple starters throughout the season.
