Big Spring City Council approved a couple of measures Tuesday night designed to move the annual seal coat program forward for the third year in a row.
The council unanimously approved an inter-local agreement with other local government entities for joint bidding and engineering management for the 2013 seal coat project, including a contract with engineering firm Parkhill, Smith & Cooper for the same project.
What was supposed to be a one-time surprise birthday party for a former Big Spring resident more than two years ago has turned into something much, much more. Saturday, the self-proclaimed âBig Spring Bunchâ will be getting together once again to get a first-hand look at the historic Hotel Settles.
Jack Bowen, a Crossroads native and graduate of Big Spring High School, will join fellow Bunch members James Bowen, Danny Zant, Warren Kelley and Lloyd Curley to tour the city and enjoy a lunch at the hotel restaurant.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity Tuesday:
â¢ ROSS LOYD MCCORD, 45, 1602 Harding, was arrested on a warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
â¢ RAYMOND NOEL RANDO, 28, 1000 W. Fourth, was arrested on charges of failure to maintain financial responsibility, speeding, no child safety seat system and possession of marijuana.
â¢ MARISSA NICOLE LOYA, 28, Austin, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ KAYLAND JAMES ALBERT CRAMER, 18, 7000 S. Service Road, was arrested on a warrant from another agency.
Evelia Castaneda Ramirez, 75, died peacefully March 10, 2013, at home surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with progressive diabetes. Evelia was born in Suchil, Durango in Mexico, the daughter of Manuel Castaneda and Gabriela Rosas Castaneda.
Evelia enjoyed the outdoors, especially playing in âMamaLaLaâsâ (her grandmother's) garden during her childhood. Despite her impoverished upbringing, Eveliaâs love for life encouraged her drive for learning, and she appreciated culture, arts, poetry, literature, classical music and the glory of Godâs love through nature.
Don âPe Pawâ Terrance Williams, 80, of San Angelo, formerly of Big Spring died Monday, March 11, 2013. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with Dr. Don Ardrey, pastor of the San Angelo First Church of the Nazarene, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Oscar Canales Jr., 34, of Laredo and formerly of Big Spring, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, in Laredo. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He was born Feb. 26, 1979, in Big Spring. He lived here until moving to Laredo 10 years ago. He was a foreman for a bridge construction company. He was a Catholic.
