Native American dancers from all over the region will pit their skills against one another April 20-21 during the ninth annual Big Spring Powwow, but before the drum circles get under way, event coordinators say sponsors and volunteers are needed to help make the cultural show a success.
Most of us would have a difficult time performing a major task every day, without fail, for a year, much less complete a painting.
For Stacy Slaten, however, producing 365 paintings in a year was more than just a chore, it was equal parts art project and teaching tool.
Slaten's work will be on display for a month beginning today at Howard College's Hall Center for the Arts. An opening reception is scheduled for 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Slaten, the art director at Howard, said she was looking around for a project when she came up with the paining-a-day project.

Breakfast — it's the new supper.
Pancakes, bacon and sausage will highlight the menu when the Kiwanis Club of Big Spring hosts its annual Pancake Supper Friday.
Serving will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Howard College cafeteria, located inside the student union building.
Tickets are $6 per person and can be purchased at the door Friday or in advance at the Big Spring Chamber of Commerce or from any Kiwanis Club member.
The supper is the club's major fundraiser during the year and has been a local mainstay for more than 60 years.
