Hangar 25 Air Museum is at it again â€“ exposing youth to the area's history.
For two hours â€” 10 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 16 â€” children between the ages of 5 and 12 will be able to learn about the Korean and Vietnam wars.
The workshop, When Worst Comes to War: Korea and Vietnam at Webb AFB, offers insight into the lives of those stationed at Webb during two historic wars.
â€śThis is yet another wonderful, educational opportunity for Big Spring kids to learn about history and how it directly impacted people from Big Spring, Texas,â€ť Museum Administrator Genevieve Stockburger said.
A program detailing the â€śorphan trainâ€ť that relocated more than a quarter-million children to Texas and the Midwest will be held Thursday at Heritage Museum.
Alsion Moore and Phil Lancaster will present â€śRiders on the Orphan Trainâ€ť at 6 p.m. in the museum's downstairs lobby. Admission is free, Director Nancy Raney said.
Between 1854 and 1929, more than 250,000 orphans and unwanted children were taken out of New York City and given away at train stations across America. The last train came to Sulphur Springs, Texas, in 1929.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ CONRADO VARGAS TAPIA, 40, of Shelby, N.C., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ MICHAEL ANGEL ESPUDO, 28, of Menifee, Calif., was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while intoxicated â€“ blood alcohol more than 0.15.
â€˘ JEREMY GOMEZ, 28, of 1601 Oriole, was arrested Monday on a charge of criminal mischief â€“ more than $50 and less than $500.
Helen Sbiwakowski, 73, of Big Spring died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at her home. Private family memorial services will be at a later date.
She was born Sept. 13, 1939, in Mount Holly, N.J., to Beylah and Harry Dilks. She married Peter Sbiwakowski on March 26, 1994, in Delaware before moving to Big Spring.
Ophelia Click, 99, of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring died March 4, 2013. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
