Area residents can find out March 21, as the National Weather Service will present its annual Skywarn class at 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers â€” located at 307 E. Fourth St.

Eight Big Spring Independent School District students are heading for the state science fair, thanks to superior performances at regional competition in Odessa this past weekend.
Brittany Tan, Haley Jenkins, Chloe Bustamante, Oscar Alvarado, Trinady Joslin, Ranen Wilson and Kylie Palmer from Big Spring Junior High School, along with Rebecca Evans from Big Spring High School earned a spot in the state science fair, which will be held later this month in San Antonio.
The Howard County Sheriff's Office reported the following activity (Note: there were 77 prisoners in the county jail at the time of this report):
â€˘ JOE ANTHONY VILLARREAL, 26, was jailed on charges of criminal mischief and impairing/interrupting public service.
â€˘ BRANDON DENNIS OLIVETTI, was jailed on a sentence for criminal trespass.
â€˘ LOUIS BUTLER EVANS, 59, was jailed on a sentence for possession of a controlled substance.
â€˘ ANTONIO PENA JR., 29, was jailed on warrants for bail jumping and failure to appear.
Ophelia Click, 99, of Lubbock, formerly of Big Spring, died Monday March 4, 2013, at Garrison Care Center in Lubbock. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Trinity Memorial Park with Minister Greg Surles, of 11th and Birdwell Church of Christ, officiating.
The Rev. William Thomas Vaughn Sr., better known as â€śPapa Vaughn,â€ť was born March 3, 1924, in rural Freestone County to John H. and Lugenia Allen Vaughn. He was one of 11 children. He graduated from Furney Richardson High School. The Rev. Vaughn served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1943. He matriculated at Prairie View A&M University and later at Paul Quinn College in Waco, Texas. In 1945, he married Elizabeth Ross. The couple had three children.
