The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity Friday:
â¢ MATTHEW MENDOZA, 33, 1104 Blackmon, was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended/invalid, possession of marijuana, possession of a dangerous drug and failure to identify giving false/fictitious information.
â¢ LUIS ALBERTO GARFIAS, 24, 1300 S. Johnson, was arrested on warrants for speeding, no driver's license (three counts), driving while license invalid and failure to appear (eight counts).
â¢ ROSA MARIA OVALLE, 25, 1802 State, was arrested on a warrant for driving while license invalid.
Guadalupe âLupeâ Villa, 65, of Odessa passed away Feb. 26, 2013, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born Sept. 26, 1947, in Big Spring, Texas, to Ycidro Villareal and Jovita Olague Villareal. She married Julian H. Villa Sr. on Feb. 11, 1966, in Big Spring. She was a homemaker.
Shirley Jane Dulin Smith, 59, of Big Spring went to her heavenly home Feb. 23, 2013, in Midland, Texas, with her husband and best friend, John, holding her hand.
Albert âAlâ Fulcher, 78, of Elk City, Okla., formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2013, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will follow in Trinity Memorial Park.
Roberta Stowe, 91, of Stanton, Texas, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in a local nursing home.
She was born April 12, 1921, in Wichita, Kan,. and married Gene B. Stowe July 31, 1953. He preceded her in death April 26, 1996.
Roberta had worked as a telephone operator. She served in the United States Army during World War II from 1941 to 1944. She was a Southern Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Fitzpatrick and husband Joe of Stanton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Edward Koessner of Arizona.
Blanche Carter, 93, of Big Spring died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Time is running out for residents with arrest warrants and fines to avoid a trip to the slammer, as local law enforcement and courts get ready to participate in a warrant roundup Saturday.
Part of a statewide effort to help municipalities and other government agencies tackle the growing number of arrest warrants being issued, Big Spring Municipal Judge Tim Green said every effort has been made to contact those with warrants and get the matters cleared up before the handcuffs get slapped on.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢ FRANKIE LOPEZ JUAREZ, 43, of 1008 N.W. Second St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant for criminal mischief.
â¢ NAOMI RENEE VILLA, 25, of 2508 Langley, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for assault by contact.
â¢ JOHN QUINN TIDWELL, 60, of 1800 S. Lancaster, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ MARCUS MENDEZ III, 19, of 1511 Johnson, was arrested Thursday on warrants for failure to control speed and public intoxication by a minor.
Sapopa Salazar, 96, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Vigil services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Alpine, Texas. She married Bonifacio Salazar in Big Spring. He preceded her in death in 1982. She spent most of her life in Big Spring. She worked as a homemaker and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where she was very active.
Harold D. Bentley, 90, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Don Brodie officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the funeral home.
