The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. today:
• AMBER RENEE ROBINSON, 27, of 100 Brown, was arrested Monday on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate and bail jumping – failure to appear (fine only).
• MITCHELL ALAN DUSH, 35, of 3600 Hamilton, was arrested Monday on a charge of driving while license invalid – DWI related.
• JAMES LESLIE INGRAM, 45, of 1100 W. Second St., was arrested Monday on a charge of criminal trespass of a habitation/shelter.

Paul 'Duane' Hillger

Paul "Duane" Hillger, 72, of Garden City died Monday, May 20, 2013, in a Big Spring hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Garden City Cemetery in Garden City, Texas.

He was born Sept. 12, 1940, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Linda Sue "Suzie" Lawson on Jan. 4, 1968, in Midland, Texas.

Duane was raised in Martin County and farmed in Martin and Glasscock counties all of his life. He loved sports and hunting. His kids and grandkids meant the world to him. Duane served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mary Deanda Gomez

Mary Deanda Gomez, 89, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday, May 16, 2013, at her home after a brief illness. Mary was born in Big Spring, Texas, and had resided in Austin since 1976.

Friends and family will remember Mary’s passion for gardening and flowers. From an early “Victory Garden” in the 1940s in Big Spring through her residences in New Orleans, San Antonio and Austin, Mary always nurtured and cared for her gardens as well as her family and children.

Thomas R. Shirley, 81, of Kingsland, formerly of Big Spring died Saturday, May 18, 2013, in Kingsland, Texas. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. James "Jakie" Shirley, Tom's brother, officiating.

Tom will lie in state at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home from Tuesday until service time Thursday.

Robert 'Tito' Vasquez II

Robert "Tito" Vasquez II, 21, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 19, 2013, in Midland. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

He was born July 14, 1991, in Eagle Pass to Dora and Roberto Vasquez. He moved to Big Spring in 2005 from Eagle Pass. He had been a cook at Taco Villa and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Mary Bernice 'Bun' Cason

Mary Bernice "Bun" Cason, 93, of Big Spring died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Bill Ivins, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the funeral home.

Dorothy Stanley, 87, of Midland died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, in a Midland nursing home. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

Local man killed in one-vehicle accident

A Big Spring man died from injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident in Midland early Sunday.

Midland Police Deparment officials say Robert “Tito” Vasquez II died early Sunday morning after he lost control of his vehicle while driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

The accident occurred just past midnight in the 500 block of W. Illinois, records state.

According to reports, Vasquez was east-bound on Illinois — the wrong way — at a high rate of speed at 12:47 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle. His car then left the roadway, striking a tree head-on on the driver's side.

Aquatic center dedication Wednesday

The public is invited to the dedication of the Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center Wednesday morning.

The center will be renamed in honor of the former Big Spring mayor during ceremonies scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

City officials and members of McEwen's family are expected to attend the event.

Debbie Wegman, director of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, said Wednesday's dedication will not mark the opening of the center for the summer.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• VICTORIA CEVALLOS, 44, of 3912 E. Highway 350, was arrested Friday on charges of theft – more than $50 and less than $500, expired registration certificate and theft by check – more than $20 and less than $500.
• KERRY CECIL OMELIA, 51, of 1004 E. 15th St., was arrested Friday on two warrants from other agencies and warrants for driving while license invalid and failure to appear.
