Lydia Del Bosque Arguello, 84, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Vigil Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Msgr. Bernard L. Gully and Deacon Johnny Arguello officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Stanton.

Curtis Anthony 'Tony' Luke

Curtis Anthony "Tony" Luke, 59, of Big Spring died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Captial Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Texas.
Tony was born Sept. 10, 1953, in Greenville, Miss., the only child of Curtis and Clemmie (Blade) Luke. He was a plumber for the Austin Independent School District for more than 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary Lynn Goswick

Gary Lynn Goswick, 58, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.
Gary was born Aug. 14, 1954, to Una and Lester Goswick in Big Spring. He married Gina on April 14, 1993, in Midland, Texas.

Kid's Klub signups take off at Hangar 25

How about sending your kids to boot camp this summer?
Hangar 25 Air Museum will be holding a Bombardier Boot Camp July 8-12 for children age 6 through 12. The World War II-themed Kid's Klub event will be both educational and entertaining.
“It is going to be a wonderful opportunity for children to learn and have fun at the same time,” said Genevieve Stockburger, museum administrator. “It will be like a summer camp in that children will learn about planes used in World War II along with survival tips and they will participate in various activities and games and make some cool crafts.”

Benavides sworn in as council member

Raul Benavides was sworn into office Tuesday night during the meeting of the Big Spring City Council, as the new District 5 representative replaced one-term councilman Craig Olson, who did not seek re-election.
Benavides was sworn into office by City Finance Director Peggy Walker, following the canvass of the June 8 runoff election. The canvass was approved by the council on a unanimous vote.

Infrastructure needs, employee retention top city wish list

The Big Spring City Council got its first look at budget issues facing the municipality as it prepares to begin work on its 2013-2014 fiscal plan, a budget that will likely target infrastructure needs and efforts to stop the turnover of much-needed city employees.
Part of a rather lengthy council meeting, Tuesday night's budget work session included a presentation from Interim City Manager Todd Darden, who highlighted some of the city's most pressing needs moving into the coming year.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
• MARK ANTHONY CHAVERA, 24, of 1502 Chickasaw St., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid previous conviction.
• KIMBERLY NICOLE RIOS, 26, of 1606 Bluebird St., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid previous conviction.
• DARRIN RAY CROOKS, 53, of 4200 Bilger St., was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
