Texas voters looking to cast a ballot in upcoming elections can prepare to pony-up a picture ID, as a landmark Supreme Court ruling issued this week will allow the state to activate its controversial voter ID law, according to Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.
After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the formula that determines which states must petition Washington before making elections changes, Abbott said Texas' voter ID law would take effect immediately.
Douglas E. Beams, 61, formerly of Big Spring, died Thursday, June 20, 2013 in Hawaii. The family will receive friends 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM Saturday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Jake Merritt, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park.
Holston Banks Sr., 72, of Big Spring died Friday, June 21, 2013, in Temple. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
ODESSA â The 10-year-old Big Spring Little League All-Stars trailed Jim Parker 3-1 after the first inning of play, but turned the tide in the second inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-3 lead over the host team.
Big Spring went on to add 10 more runs in the outing, winning by a score of 15-5.
Jim Parker's offense floundered, while Big Spring's bats were relentless.

COAHOMA â Richie Ewing was among the best of the best at the recent University Interscholastic League State Solo and Ensemble contest.
Ewing, a sophomore baritone for the Coahoma High School choir, earned a Divison I rating (the highest possible) rating at the state contest, but his excellence didn't stop there â his judge rating him as an âoutstanding performerâ at the contest, held in Pflugerville.
To put that achievement into context, Lewis was among 305 of an estimated 24,000 contest participants to receive that distinction, CHS Choir Director Sandy Wallace said.
The Big Spring City Council received an update on issues surrounding the municipal landfill during Tuesday night's meeting and the prognosis is anything but sunny.
According to Interim City Manager Todd Darden, the landfill has reached a critical point where the influx of materials â much of which is coming from construction and commercial entities â is cutting the life of the facility in half.

â¢ BILLY BOB ALVARADO, 34, of 1704 Virginia, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal trespass.
â¢ JESSICA RENEE ORSAK, 24, of 701 Settles, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
Erma Louise Tolliver, 67, of Llano died Monday, June 17, 2013, in Llano, Texas. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Evergreen Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with her nephews, the Rev. Kelly Inman, associate pastor of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, and the Rev. Anthony Inman, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Miami, Texas, officiating.
She was born July 25, 1945, in Carthage, Ill., to Erma (Belknap) and Ralph Inman.
Pat McPhaul, 71, of Colorado City died Monday, June 24, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
He was born July 25, 1941, in Socorro, N.M., and married Shirley Ann Thurman on May 2, 1959, in Acuna, N.M. Pat was involved in farming and the oil and gas industry. He retired as a land and ranch appraiser.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City.
