Edward Cruz, 96, of Big Spring died Friday, July 19, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle and Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Family asks for help in finding killer

As an investigation into the February death of a Big Spring man remains at a standstill while investigators await lab reports, members of the man's family are pleading with Crossroads residents with information on the case to come forward.
Daniel Flores, 44, was pronounced dead the evening Feb. 19 in a vehicle at his residence in the 1400 block of W. Second Street after family members discovered his body, according to officials with the Big Spring Police Department.

Council to look at 'man camp' ordinance on second reading

The Big Spring City Council is expected to consider final reading of an ordinance designed to define and shape the use of modular homes, temporary workforce housing and “man camps” in the city limits when it meets Tuesday evening.
The ordinance — which was commissioned by the council in hopes of limiting the damaging effects of the oil boom associated with the Cline Shale discovery — takes a number of steps to regulate how the “man camps” and other temporary housing will be used within the city limits.

Senior League All-Stars eliminated, settle for 3rd in state

SAN ANGELO — Big Spring's Senior League All-Stars were eliminated in their second match-up against San Antonio Capitol Park on Saturday by a score of 10-1 at the Texas Sports Complex, but the 15 and 16-year olds comprising the squad can hold their heads high. The team finished third in the entire state and put together the longest postseason run of any Big Spring Little League roster on record.

In Saturday morning's elimination game against South Garland, Adam Franco engaged in a pitching duel with the opposing hurler. The offense began making noise in the fifth.
