AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens will conduct its first virtual patrol ridealong via Twitter on Labor Day weekend.
The wardens will give the public a first-hand look at what happens on a typical opening dove season shift in their tweet-along on Sunday, September 1st.
Throughout that day, the agency’s technology warden, also a commissioned officer, will join a warden in Travis County and tweet continuously what happens that day.  The public is invited to follow along at twitter.com/TexasGameWarden.

Birth Announcement

Pace’Lei Grace Lance was born Aug. 12, 2013, at 12:17 p.m. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19 inches long.
Pace'Lei is the daughter of Angela and Blake Lance of Coahoma. Maternal grandparents aree Donna and David Pace of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Lonnie and Vernette Hill of Big Spring. Pace'Lei was welcomed home by big brother Dylan Lance.

Steers open with 49-0 rout of Fort Stockton

If you're a Steer fan, Friday's game against Fort Stockton may have seemed liked deja vu, as Big Spring trounced the Panthers 49-0 for the second straight year in its opener. Except this time, the venue was Memorial Stadium and the Steers dazzled a home crowd.

“We expected to play well,” BSHS Head Coach Phillip Ritchey said. “When you have that many guys on offense and defense who have been there before, you expect them to play well.”

Jonathan Lee Rees was named to the dean's list at Victoria College for maintaining a gpa of 3.5 or greater for the semmester.
Jonathan is the son of Greg and Darla Rees of Victoria, Texas. He is the grandson of Charles and Johnnie Ray and the late, Skeet Harrington all of Coahoma; and Fred and Anita Blalack of Marble Falls and the late, Robert Rees of Olney.

Married at Marcy House

August 31, 2013

Delbert and Louise (Ramirez) Green were married Aug. 29, 2013 in the courtyard at Marcy House in Big Spring. Mr. and Mrs. James ‘Leon’ Snider, residents of Marcy House, served as attendants for the couple. Judge Kim Hoffman of Garden City, officiated the wedding.
After the ceremony, guests joined the couple for a reception inside the activity room that overlooks the porch and courtyard area.
The newly pronounced Mrs. Delbert Green said, “It meant so much to have our families, in addition to the Marcy House family, be a part of our special day.”

Mark A. Pattin

Mark A. Pattin, 50, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel.
He was born Sept. 29, 1962, to Carol and Bill Pattin in Oakland, Calif. He was a longtime resident of Big Spring, coming to the community in 1986. He worked for Yale E. Key, Shroyer Motor Company, Walmart and T/A Travel Center. He had also owned Carraiger Cab Company. He was a Catholic.

Barbara Russell

August 31, 2013

Barbara Russell, 81, of Big Spring died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Ken McMeans officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at the funeral home.

Mize Anniversary

August 31, 2013

A.C. (Cotton) and Billie Mize will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary on Saturday Aug. 31, 2013. The couple will spend a relaxing weekend in Ruidoso, N.M.
Cotton was born in Big Spring. Billie was born Billie Yvonne Norris in California. As a young woman, she moved from Fresno, Calif. to Big Spring, Texas and began working at the state drug store where she met Cotton, after he returned from serving in World War II in the United States Air Force in January 1947.

Eloisa Arriola

Eloisa Arriola, 85, of Big Spring, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, Aug.29, 2013. Prayer service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Joe Torres officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Neugebauer coming to Big Spring

Big Spring's congressman is in a listening mood.
Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R-Lubbock), will hold a “town hall listening session” at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Hall Center for the Arts on the Howard College campus.
Neugebauer is expected to update residents on recent happenings from the U.S. Congress, but will also answer questions from his constituents.
