There have been at least two confirmed cases of West Nile Virus within the city limits of Big Spring, according to a report from the Texas Department of State Health Services issued Wednesday.
The Texas Department of State Health Services notified officials with the city of Big Spring regarding the confirmed cases, according to a press release issued by Big Spring Fire Department Chief Craig Ferguson this morning.
COAHOMA â€” An early afternoon fire here Wednesday destroyed a trailer home, but its occupants fortunately escaped injury.
The fire started shortly after 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Hoover Avenue. Several units from the Howard County Volunteer and Big Spring fire departments arrived shortly thereafter to find the home engulfed in flames.
HCVFD Chief Tommy Sullivan said the fire appeared to have started in the living room area and quickly spread to all other areas of the trailer home.
Beulah Mae Stoeger, 90, of Odessa, formerly of Big Spring died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in an Odessa hospital. Her services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Martin C. Meissner was born in Midland County to Gustav and Alma Meissner and grew up on a farm with his parents, four sisters and two brothers. He was baptized at, confirmed at and attended Grace Lutheran Church. Martin attended Prairie Lee School as a young child and graduated from Midland High School. Martin then went to college at Tarleton State and Texas Tech, where he took part in Army ROTC.

As for the Buffaloes, they earned a playoff berth in 2012, but were ousted in the bi-district round by Quanah. Phillips' goal is to take his team deeper into the postseason.
