Eleven people, including a Big Spring man charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, were indicted during Thursday's session of the Howard County Grand Jury.
Luis Alejandro Ramos, 24, currently in custody at the county jail, faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the aggravated assault indictments. Those charges stem from two separate incidents which occurred earlier this year in Big Spring.
OVALO â€” Jack W. Hancock, 98, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2013, at his ranch in Ovalo. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the First Baptist Church, Tuscola, with burial to follow in the Tuscola Cemetery. Pastor Dewayne Bush will officiate, directed by Fry~Bartlett Funeral Home, Tuscola. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the funeral home.
Reginald Jerome Vanderbilt, 30, departed this Saturday Aug. 17, 2013. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 111 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Janice Wilson, 58, of Big Spring died Tuesday August 20, 2013, at her residence. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Baptist Temple Church.
She was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Anderson, Ind., to Leanna and Paul Hunter. She married Richard "Rick" Wilson July 28, 1983, in Gatesville, Texas. She was a homemaker but had also been a church secretary and secretary for her husband's construction business. She moved to Big Spring Jan. 1, 2012, from Copperas Cove, Texas. She was a member of Baptist Temple Church.
Frankie Rubio, 54, of Big Spring, died Thursday,, Aug. 22, 2013, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
The state of Texas will get a black eye from some and heaps of praise from others regarding new laws that come into effect in a few days.
Switchblade knives? Theyâ€™ll be legal in Texas beginning Sept. 1.
Concealed Handgun Licenses? It will only take four hours of training â€” plus range time â€” to get a license now, not 10 as in the past.
Those are just two of many laws which go into effect the first day in September.

FORSAN â€” A new elementary school is about to go up in Forsan. Not surprisingly, so is district taxpayers' bills.
Forsan Independent School District officials are putting the final touches on a new budget that features employee pay raises, deficit spending and a notable spike in the tax rate.
When district voters approved a $23 million construction bond earlier this year, they also voted themselves a tax increase to pay for the improvements, and that process will begin when trustees formally approve the new budget and tax rate Tuesday.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Pastor Jerome McNally and Evangelist Ella Coaster officiating. Burial will be at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
He attended San Angelo and Big Spring schools. He was a member of New Life Ministries COGIC.
Ruby Faye Roberts Lewis, 80, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, in an Abilene hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rick Cunningham officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the funeral home.
She was born March 7, 1933, on a farm near Knott, Texas, and married Lawrence Ray Lewis July 13, 1952, in Knott, Texas.
Ruby and Lawrence Ray were members of 14th & Main Church of Christ.
