OVALO â Jack Hancock, 98, died Wednesday morning, Aug. 21, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Tuscola.
Burial will follow in the Tuscola Cemetery. Arrangements are by Fry~Bartlett Funeral Home, Tuscola.
Janice Wilson, 58, of Big Spring died Tuesday Aug. 20, 2013, at her residence. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Baptist Temple Church with the Rev. Jim Mills officiating.
She was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Anderson, Ind., to Leanna and Paul Hunter. She married Richard Dale "Rick" Wilson July 28, 1983, in Gatesville, Texas. She was a homemaker and had been a church secretary and secretary for her husband's construction business. She moved to Big Spring Jan. 1, 2012, from Copperas Cove Texas. She was a member of Baptist Temple Church.
Big Spring Independent School District trustees decided they're in no rush to name an interim superintendent.
After interviewing four candidates to temporarily replace departed Superintendent Steven Saldivar during a special meeting Tuesday evening, BSISD trustees announced they would put off hiring someone until later this month.
Saldivar, who has headed BSISD since 2008, announced his resignation earlier this month. He will become superintendent at Anthony ISD in far West Texas effective today.
COAHOMA â School teachers here will see a raise in salary and help with rising insurance costs under a new budget formally adopted by trustees Tuesday night.
Under the new budget, all teachers will receive a raise, but the biggest boost will be handed out to first-year teachers, who will see their salaries increase by $1,000 to $35,670, Superintendent Amy Jacobs said.
Tashanna Forman, 40, of Big Spring died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mount Bethel Baptist Church.
She was born March 4, 1973, to Bertie and Clarence Forman in Big Spring. Except for a few years in Oklahoma, she was a lifetime resident of Big Spring. She attended Howard College and Murray State University in Oklahoma. Tashanna was employed by West Texas Dialysis as a patient care technician. She was a member of New Life Church, where she served as youth director.

The Lady Steers weren't very gracious hosts to Andrews Tuesday, as Big Spring's volleyball program rolled over the Lady Mustangs in three sets, winning by scores of 25-7, 25-14 and 25-12.
The dominating performance was keyed by strong setting, offense and defense, while Andrews sputtered from the start, unable to string together a meaningful run.

Alvin Gillion, 53, of Big Spring died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at his residence. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Private family services will be at a later date.
He was born May 12, 1960 in Galveston, Texas. He married Penny Faul Sept. 2, 1987 in Scotty, La. He has lived in Big Spring for the past seven years. He worked as a sandblaster.
