Lola Margaret Daniell Kelley

Lola Margaret Daniell Kelley, 84, formerly of Houston and Big Spring, Texas, retired school teacher, passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2013, in Madison, Wisc. She was a proud member of the DAR, an avid gardener and painter, and approached life with grace and style. She will be fondly remembered by her family and friends as an entertaining storyteller and lifelong teacher, with a quick wit and a warm heart.
Devoted mother of Virginia (Albert) Cooke; and Victor (Kathy), Cdr. Marshall (Maria), and Preston Kilman. wife of the late Altus Alvin Kelley.

Robert Scott Greene

Robert Scott Greene, 99, of Big Spring died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Greg Surles officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Dunn Cemetery in Dunn, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.
Robert was born Dec. 6, 1913 in Ada, Okla., and married Lula Mae McKnight, June 5, 1937, in Lubbock. She preceded him in death April 24, 2010.

It’s that time of year! Ag Appreciation Day is just around the corner.
All area farmers and producers will be guests of honor at the 22nd Annual Ag Appreciation Day on Thursday, Oct. 10.
“The Chamber is excited to announce that this year’s event will be held in the newly built G.C. Broughton Ag Complex on the Howard College Campus,” said Debbye ValVerde, chamber executive director.

Man shot dead; deputy on leave

Texas Rangers are investigating the fatal shooting of a 19-year-old man by a Howard County deputy sheriff early Friday.
Caleb Hector died at Scenic Mountain Medical Center Friday morning after being shot during an altercation with Deputy Sheriff Alfredo Hilario, according to information released by County Sheriff Stan Parker.
Parker said the shooting occurred after Hilario responded to a 911 call at a residence south of Big Spring around 2 a.m. Friday.
