The âPeople's Courtâ is no more.
Texas' Supreme Court abolished Small Claims Court effective Aug. 31 and restructured portions of the Texas Government Code, Texas Rules of Civil Procedure and Texas Property Code to accommodate new rules for Justice Court cases which became effective Sept. 1.
In the past, while Small Claims Court and Justice Civil Court were held in the same courtroom with the same justice of the peace presiding, they were in fact very different courts with different rules.
Ever since the horrible events of Sept. 11, 2001, Howard County residents have answered the call of duty âand some have even paid âthe last full measure of devotionâ â for their country.
As they have for the past seven years, area residents will gather to remember Howard County servicemen who have fallen during conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The âMemorial at the Plaza,â set for 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at Spring Town Plaza (formerly Big Spring Mall), will honor not only local servicemen, but all those lost in the terror attacks of 12 years ago, organizers said.
Jesusita "Chuy" Lopez, 85, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at her residence. Vigil services will be at 7: p.m.Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
Don D. Roman, 75, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Revs. Walter McCall and Joey Bacon officiating. Interment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 22, 1937, in Tahoka, Texas. Don married Beth Kuykendall Nov.19, 1988, in Big Spring, Texas.
Donna Mann, 60, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at the Hospice House in Odessa. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
