Tony Gene Tucker (Double T), 72, of Santa Anna, Texas, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at an Abilene hospital. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Roger Matthews officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
• YOSELYNNEE PINEDA, 20, of 1104 E. Sixth St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor.
• ELIAS GARRIDO TOVAR, 36, of 909 W. Fifth St., was arrested Sunday on a charge of hindering officers discharging official duties.

Westbrook High students ready to graduate

WESTBROOK — Sixteen seniors will receive their diplomas when Westbrook High School holds commencement exercises at 7 p.m. Friday in the school auditorium.
Alexis Nobles, daughter of Tracy Rees, is class valedictorian. During her high school career, she was active in National Honor Society, student council and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
In athletics, she participated in basketball, tennis and cross-country.
She was also active in her church, as well, participating in mission trips to Nepal and Romania.

2 dead in shooting spree

EDEN, Texas — A shooting spree in over a two-county area early Sunday morning has left two people dead and at least five injured.
A Department of Public Safety trooper and a game warden were able to end the carnage when they shot and killed a 23-year-old North Carolina man, who name has not been released.
The Texas Rangers, assisted by local law enforcement and Texas Parks and Wildlife, are still investigating multiple scenes.

Remembering the fallen: Memorial Day observances set for Monday

Residents of the Crossroads area will come together to honor the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty Monday, as a pair of local organizations looks to herald in the annual Memorial Day remembrance.

The Big Spring Vietnam Memorial Committee will start the day with ceremonies at the local memorial — located near the intersection of Rackley and Swords, near the rear entrance to the SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf — at 11 a.m., according to committee member and spokesperson Jerry Groves.

Four face kidnapping indictments

A Howard County grand jury handed down nearly 30 indictments Thursday, including true-bills for four Big Spring residents charged with the April kidnapping of a 15-year-old boy from his home in the 1500 block of Wood Street.

Arrested were Ricardo Ramirez, 24, of 4004 Connally; Sophia Conception Marmolejo, 29, of 2521 Chanute; Juan Eduardo Diaz, 23, address not provided; and Abilene Renee Mojica, 30, of 1207 Sycamore.

• NATHANIEL JAMMAL AUSBIE, 29, of 107 E. 17th St., was arrested Friday on charges of driving while license suspended/invalid previous conviction and failure to maintain financial responsibility second offense.
• BENJAMIN CARL MITCHEL,L 47, of 6007 SE 14th Ave., Amarillo, Texas, was arrested Friday on a warrant from another agency.

Gabino Rodriguez Jr., 60, of Big Spring, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, in Big Spring. Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.

Iris Imogene “Tommye” McGuire, 92, of Big Spring and formerly of Lamesa, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Lamesa with Gerald Parsons officiating and Wayne Smith assisting. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Branon Funeral Home.
