Funeral services for Delbert Joe Davidson, 76, of Cleburne, Texas, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Rio Vista, Texas, with the Rev. Neale Oliver officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Pinyan. Burial will follow in Rio Vista Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Rosser Funeral Home.
Mr. Davidson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, in Fort Worth, Texas. He was born in Big Spring, Texas, Dec. 5, 1936, the son of L.J. and Jennie Lou (Curtis) Davidson.
Sapopa Salazar, 96, of Big Spring died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Parkview Nursing Center. Vigil services will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Cemetery.
She was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Alpine, Texas. She married Bonifacio Salazar in Big Spring. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Harold D. Bentley, 90, of Big Spring died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, in a local nursing home. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Big Spring school officials are asking people to take care if they are approached to buy advertising related to high school athletic programs.
High School Principal Mike Ritchey said he has recently received complaints from people who have bought advertising they thought was going to benefit local athletic programs.
â€śThese firms have claimed they are representing Big Spring athletics â€¦ and that's false,â€ť Ritchey said. â€śThe proceeds from those ad sales are not going to benefit our kids.â€ť
The race for the District 5 seat on the Big Spring City Council is finally heating up, as two local residents have thrown their hats into the political arena.
Clint Collins, 44, pastor at Life Church, has filed his candidacy for the District 5 seat with the Big Spring City Secretary's office. Also filing for the seat is 48-year-old Raul Benavides, a financial advisor with Edward Jones Investments.
According to Collins, several local residents approached him and encouraged him to file to run for the District 5 seat.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ LAQUITA LASHAY GRAY, 34, of 1515 Sycamore, was arrested Tuesday on warrants for no driver's license â€“ when unlicensed, failure to maintain financial responsibility and a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ AMY MONIQUE WEBBER, 41, of 3214 Oasis, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
â€˘ JOEY DALE GOODWIN, 39, of 510 Donley, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hughetta Lowe Roberts, 89, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with her grandson, Pastor Gavin Reed of Abingdon, Va., officiating. He will be assisted by her son-in-law, Dean Marchant and the Rev. John McCullough. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the funeral home.
Madaleno Castillo, age 70, of Hermleigh passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.
Rosary for Mr. Castillo was held Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Roy Badillas officiating. Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Mr. Castillo was born June 19, 1942, in Bastrop, Texas, to Federico and Josefina Castillo. He married Elvira Moreno on Dec. 17, 1960, in Colorado City, Texas.
Edward Reeves Moren, 85, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating.
Reeves was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Breckenridge, Texas, and married Elizabeth Smith on Sept. 19, 1954, in Texarkana, Ark.
Marciano â€śMarcyâ€ť Gracia, 52, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel.
He was born June 8, 1960, in Brownsville to Gregoria and Rolando Gracia. He grew up in Brownsville and married Mary Flores in 1981. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1977 to 1981 before moving to Big Spring. He worked as a carpenter and general contractor.
