Hughetta Lowe Roberts

February 27, 2013

Hughetta Lowe Roberts, 89, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in a local nursing home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with her grandson, Pastor Gavin Reed of Abingdon, Va., officiating. He will be assisted by her son-in-law, Dean Marchant and the Rev. John McCullough. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the funeral home.

Madaleno Castillo

Madaleno Castillo, age 70, of Hermleigh passed away Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013.

Rosary for Mr. Castillo was held Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in Wright Colonial Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Roy Badillas officiating. Burial followed in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Wright Colonial Funeral Home.

Mr. Castillo was born June 19, 1942, in Bastrop, Texas, to Federico and Josefina Castillo. He married Elvira Moreno on Dec. 17, 1960, in Colorado City, Texas.

Edward Reeves Moren

Edward Reeves Moren, 85, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, in a local hospital. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Ivins officiating.

Reeves was born Nov. 18, 1927, in Breckenridge, Texas, and married Elizabeth Smith on Sept. 19, 1954, in Texarkana, Ark.

Marciano 'Marcy' Gracia

Marciano “Marcy” Gracia, 52, of Big Spring died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Chapel.

He was born June 8, 1960, in Brownsville to Gregoria and Rolando Gracia. He grew up in Brownsville and married Mary Flores in 1981. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1977 to 1981 before moving to Big Spring. He worked as a carpenter and general contractor.

P.E. Osburn

P.E. Osburn, 90, of Paducah, Texas, formerly of Big Spring, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, in Paducah.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Chillicothe Cemetery with Randy Wilson officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Johnny Rueda

Johnny Rueda, 56, of Big Spring died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Midland Memorial Hospital. Graveside memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.

He was born Jan. 16, 1957, in Bryan, Texas. He married Alice Baker in 2002 in Big Spring. He worked as a driller in the oilfield.

He is survived by three sons, William and Anthony of Lubbock and Johnny Ray Michael Rueda Jr. of El Paso; three brothers, James, Ruben and Freddie Rueda; one sister, Margaret; and six grandchildren.

Sapopa Salazar

Sapopa Salazar, 96, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Grady boys are lone area team in regional round of playoffs

SEMINOLE — And then there was one. No. 8 Grady rolled past Ropes in a Class A, Division II regional quarterfinal playoff round Tuesday, routing the Eagles 72-38 using a balanced offensive attack and aggressive defense.

With the win, the Wildcats (25-6) advanced to the regional semifinal, where they will meet the winner of the Whitharral-Nazareth game which is being held today due to a weather postponement.

Hawks take sixth straight with win over New Mexico Military Institute

It's been another successful season for Howard College Men's Basketball. After opening Western Junior College Athletic Conference play with a 2-2 record, the Hawks have reached the apex.

With Monday's 87-69 win over New Mexico Military Institute, HC — despite dropping two games to rival Midland College — sits atop the conference with a 12-3 record. The Hawks have won six straight and 10 of their last 11.

FISD board sets bond issue for May 11 election

FORSAN — School trustees here unanimously voted Monday evening to send a $23.8 million construction bond issue to voters in May.

After several months of study, Forsan Independent School District officials decided to move forward with a proposal that, pending voter approval, will finance a new elementary school and several renovations at the secondary campus and other facilities.

Items to be financed by the bond package include:
