FORSAN — While a lot of attention in Forsan Independent School District's bond election is focused on a proposal for a new elementary campus, the district has a lot planned for the junior high/high school building, as well.
Voters will decide next Saturday whether to approve a $23.8 million construction bond. The majority of that money is earmarked for a new campus to replace Elbow Elementary, but several million dollars would be funneled toward enhancements at the secondary building.
Many high school seniors are already making plans for college and Brady Gartman is certainly no different, except his college plans are, shall we say, a bit more regimented than most.
Gartman, a Forsan High School senior and the son of Dean and Misty Gartman of Glasscock County, has been accepted to attend the U.S. Air Force Academy starting in late June.
Gartman was nominated for the appointment by U.S. Representative Mike Conaway and received notification of his acceptance into the academy in late March.
With two days to go, the latest available early voting figures for Howard County indicate a little more than 100 people a day have cast ballots in the Big Spring municipal elections
Early voting in all of the elections continues Monday and Tuesday on the first floor of the Howard County Courthouse, with election day taking place Saturday, May 11.
“We've got two days left in the early voting period and we want to encourage everyone who can to get out and vote,” said Saundra Bloom, elections administrator.

The future of art — at least, in Big Spring — is on display at Heritage Museum.
More than 100 pieces of artwork, representing the best efforts of Big Spring High School students, will be exhibited at the museum through May 17, Director Nancy Raney said.
Students whose work is on display and their family members will be admitted for free to the museum through the exhibit's run, Raney added.
The exhibit, now in its third year, is the brainchild of BSHS Art Teacher Judy Tereletsky.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. May 2, 2013 and 7 a.m. today:
• HENRY TREVINO FRANCO, JR. 21, of 1700 E. Fourth, was arrested Thursday on charges of failure to appear and criminal mischief under $50.
• GARY D. ALLYN, 49, of 999 W. Amador Ave., Las Cruces, New Mexico, was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
• NINFA MORENO GARCIA, 57, of 1501 Sycamore, was arrested Thursday on charges of public intoxication.
• KURT ANTON MIRANDA, 32, of 4100 Bilger St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
Billye June (B.J.) Crownover Rogers passed away April 11, 2013. She was born in Electra, Texas, on Oct. 24, 1930, and will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Loraine cemetery near other members of the Crownover family. She was formerly from Big Spring and Loraine, Texas, but has most recently resided in Portland, Texas, until her death.
Byron B. Smith Jr. of Pittsburg, Texas, died April 30, 2013, in Tyler, Texas, following a short illness. He was 82 years old.
Byron Braxton Smith Jr. was born in Odessa, Texas, to Byron B. Smith Sr. and Anna Hall Smith on Jan. 23, 1931. He was the oldest of five children. The Smith family moved to Arkansas, where, at age 16, Byron enlisted in the Army. He served in the Army, then re-inlisted in the Air Force. He was a staff sergeant and a medic during the Korean War, stationed in Ashiya, Japan.
Services for Kimberly Genice Peacock, 19, a student at Tarleton State University, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Big Spring, Texas, with Father Gully officiating. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home, Stephenville, Texas.
Kimberly was born in Big Spring, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1993, to Jeremy Peacock and Valorie A. Hoard. She was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, and a member of Phi Mu sorority.
Ethel Louise Riley, 83, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Survivors include daughter, Pam Rinehart and husband Snooky of Midland, Texas; two granddaughters; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
Madrid Luene Anderson Robinson, 92, formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, May 02, 2013, at Brian Center of Statesville, N.C.
She was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas, and was the daughter of William Jesse and Dolly Mae Barnett Anderson. Before relocating to Statesville in 1996, she was a long-time resident of Big Spring, Texas, where she was a legal secretary for 33 years for the John A. Coffee firm and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
