Waiver applications headed to TEA

Forty-one down, nine to go.

Trustees with the Big Spring Independent School District were pleased to learn that officials plan to apply for only nine class-size waivers from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) this year.

“As the result of (personnel) moves we made earlier this year — some of our staff members and some from new hires — we are requesting only nine class-size waivers as compared to 50 waivers that we applied for last year.” said Chris Wigington, BSISD interim superintendent. “Without the hires and the moves that we made, we would be requesting 29 waivers."

More than 600 vendors are expected in Stanton for Trade Days

October 10, 2013

STANTON — Sold out!

Old Sorehead Trade Days, which takes place this weekend, isn’t sold out in terms of wares, antiques, handcrafted items and food (don’t forget the corn dogs, kettle corn, turkey legs and funnel cakes) of course. But if you’re a vendor looking for a place to do some business, you’ll have to go on down the road. With 615 vendors already signed up for what organizers call ”the best little show in West Texas” Stanton will definitely be bustin’ at the seams.

Add in 30,000 expected visitors over the show’s two-day run, and this town of 2,700 will swell indeed.
