If you turn the lights on, they will come.
Thatâs the theory behind the popular drive-through event, the Festival of Lights, and if so, theyâre right. As of Wednesday evening, 3,406 visitors had made their way through the 1 million-plus light display, representing 16 states, Canada and Japan.
The Festival opened Sunday and will run from 6 to 10 nightly through Dec. 31 at Comanche Trail Park.
Jimmy Hopper, 64, of Big Spring, Texas died Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Derrick Looney, officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Jimmy was born October 27, 1949, in Hobbs, N.M.
Wayne L. Morris, 90, of Big Spring, Texas, died Tuesday at his residence. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Elwin Collom, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 19, 1923, in Iredell, Texas, and married Marciel Newman Nov.r 7, 1942, in Big Spring.
James Walter Salvato, 71, of Big Spring,Texas, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, in a local hospital. Honoring his wishes, no services are planned at this time.
James was born Aug. 2, 1942, to Peter and Leota (Reid) Salvato in San Angelo, Texas. He married Viola Barfield June 17, 2005 in Big Spring.
Construction at the Howard College San Angelo site is heading skyward.
âAfter weeks of watching all of this horizontal activity behind the (West Texas) Training Center â clearing of land, the building of pads â we have finally seen some vertical action,â John Parsons, campus dean of facilities of the West Texas Training Center reported to Howard College trustees Monday.
Following a generous donation from the employees of Al's Barbecue, the manager of Wal-Mart decided to do the same and matched Al's donation with the proceeds going to the annual Big Sprng Area Chamber of Commerce Toy Drive, much to the delight of Executive Director Debbye Valverde.
âWe didn't get as many donations this year, so this will really help,â she said.

Jan Elliott, 65, of Big Spring, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, in a Midland hospital after a long battle with health issues. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 19, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. At Jan's request, there will be a private family service at a later date.
Alex Torres, 57, of Big Spring died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at his residence. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will be at Coahoma Cemetery.
He was born Feb. 3, 1956, in Big Spring to Juana and Santos Torres. He grew up in Coahoma and graduated from Coahoma High School. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad since 1974 as a conductor. He was a lifetime resident of Howard County and was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
