The Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce has extended its deadline for applications for the Big Spring Leadership program, set to begin Sept. 12 at the Big Spring Area Chamber of Commerce.
â€śWe still have space available and we would like to have anyone join us who can,â€ť said Debbye ValVerde, chamber executive director.
Deadline for applications to be turned is now 3 p.m. Sept, 5.
This program is designed to increase leadership skills and learn more about the community. We are anticipating another successful year.
ABILENE â€” Big Spring volleyball enjoyed a successful weekend at the Bev Ball Classic Tournament, at which the state-ranked Lady Steers won four-of-six matches against a wide array of schools.
After losses to Lubbock Coronado and Burleson on Friday, BSHS rebounded with a win over Water Valley to close out the evening. Saturday, The Lady Steers racked up wins against Brownwood, Sweetwater and San Angelo Lake View.
With the Labor Day holiday right around the corner, the Texas Department of Transportation is aiming to curb drunk driving by giving potential offenders a look at the hardships they can face if they get behind the wheel while intoxicated.
Part of TxDOT's â€śDrink. Drive. Got to Jailâ€ť campaign, the state agency will be touring Texas college campuses with its portable simulated jail cells in hopes of conveying the harsh reality of being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Needed repairs at the city water treatment plant will force Big Spring officials to ban all non-essential water use for a 36-hour period beginning Wednesday evening.
â€śIn order for the City of Big Spring to perform essential upgrades to the water treatment plant, we will perform a 36-hour shutdown on water treatment services,â€ť states a news release from Big Spring city offices. â€śTo ensure that there is sufficient water for basic living necessities, the city manager will temporarily ban all non-essential water uses beginning Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at 9 p.m.â€ť
Teresa Silva Rocha, 70, of Big Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in a Midland hospital. Funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
Having fun and giving back was the order of the day for Davis Knocke's 6th birthday.
The Chaplaincy corp with the help of the Big Spring Fire Department raised $300 for United Way all while giving Davis a birthday to remember.
â€śIt was a blast,â€ť said Fire Chief Carl Condray. â€śEverybody had a really good time.â€ť
Although, the fire department inspired birthday isn't a routine event, Joel Miller of the Chaplaincy Corp hopes to make it an annual event.
Through a suggestion made by Miller's daughter-in-law, the chaplain approached the fire department about the idea.
J.C. And Dorothy (Davis) Wall of Big Spring celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary July 30, 2013.
The couple were wed in the home of J.C.'s parents in Snyder, Texas. J.C. And Dot will celebrate their anniversary in Rockport with their four children and spouses, 11 grandchildren and spouses, and 7 great-grandchildren with a total of 33 for the celebration. There will be lots of fishing, great food, swimming and fun for all the family to be together, ranging in age 88 to one year-old.
Helena Kimberly Rodriguez, a girl, was born May 10, 2013 at 5:08 a.m. She weighed 7 pounds 15.7 ounces and was 21 inches long.
She is the daughter of Samantha and David Rodriguez of Big Spring. Maternal grandparents are Becky Salgado and the late, Simon Alcantar. Paternal grandparents are the late Mary Rios and Moso Rios; and Thomas and Virginia Rodriguez.
Helena was welcomed home by big brothers, Brandon, Robert and Lee Rodriguez.
Kendal Layne Adams of Big Spring and Casey Barham of Archer City exchanged vows March 23, 2013, at Trinity Baptist Church in Big Spring.
Kendal is the daughter of Ricky and Patti Adams of Big Spring and the granddaughteer of Sonya Swindell of Big Spring.
She is a Speech-Language Pathologist at United Regional Hospital.
Casey is the son of Charlie and Deniese Barham and the grandson of Joyce Barham and Donna Williams. He is a petroleum engineer.
