Patricia 'Pat' Dover

Patricia "Pat" Dover, 67, of Big Spring died Tuesday July 16, 2013. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Spring Creek Fellowship.

She was born Aug. 31, 1945, to Bertha Mae and Garman Pope in Oklahoma City. She was a long time resident of Big Spring. She was a homemaker. She was married to Raymond Dover who preceded her in death in 1978. She was a member of Spring Creek Fellowship.

City to limit landfill waste

Beginning Aug. 1, commercial entities which have previously dumped their oilfield, construction or demolition waste at the municipal landfill will be turned away, according to officials with the city of Big Spring.

Public Works Director Johnny Womack made the announcement this week, part of an effort by the city administration to limit the amount of waste being brought into the facility, which is quickly reaching the end of its lifespan.

Concerns about student and staff safety have reached new heights in the wake of school shootings across the country in recent months. While some Texas school districts are debating options such as arming teachers, both Coahoma and Forsan have instead chosen to go with a permanent law enforcement presence at their campuses.

Calvary Callender officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the funeral home.
He was born Aug. 23, 1954, in Big Spring, Texas, and married Lynn Doss on March 24, 1978, in Big Spring.

Former resident gets 15-year term in federal prison

A former Big Spring resident was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison — to be followed by eight years probation — by a U.S. District Judge this week after pleading guilty to receiving child pornography in March.

Christopher Aubrey Harlan, 27, formerly of Big Spring and believed most recently to have been residing in Central Texas, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Sam R. Cummings after pleading guilty to one count of receiving child pornography, according to officials with the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of Texas.

Rains of little help to CRMWD reservoirs

Rains this week were good for farmers, gardeners and almost everyone else seeking a break from drought-like conditions. For the Colorado River Municipal Water District, however, the precipitation was of only modest benefit.

Parts of the Crossroads area have received more than 2 inches of rain since the start of the week, thanks to a low-pressure front that brought with it plenty of Gulf moisture. And while the slow, soaking rains were almost ideal for agriculture producers and will help green up area lawns, they didn't add much to CRMWD reservoirs.
