The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. today:
â€¢ DANIEL RUSSELL QUALLS, 34, of 2602 Dow, was arrested Tuesday on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance.
â€¢ BILLY BOB ALVARADO, 34, of 1704 Virginia, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal trespass.
â€¢ JESSICA RENEE ORSAK, 24, of 701 Settles, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant from another agency.
Erma Louise Tolliver, 67, of Llano died Monday, June 17, 2013, in Llano, Texas. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at the Evergreen Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery in Stanton with her nephews, the Rev. Kelly Inman, associate pastor of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Midland, and the Rev. Anthony Inman, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Miami, Texas, officiating.
She was born July 25, 1945, in Carthage, Ill., to Erma (Belknap) and Ralph Inman.
Pat McPhaul, 71, of Colorado City died Monday, June 24, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Colorado City. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park in Big Spring.
He was born July 25, 1941, in Socorro, N.M., and married Shirley Ann Thurman on May 2, 1959, in Acuna, N.M. Pat was involved in farming and the oil and gas industry. He retired as a land and ranch appraiser.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City.
Douglas E. Beams, 61, formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, June 20, 2013, in Hawaii. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
When Big Spring Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Phillip Ritchey began his search for a new baseball coach and basketball coach at the varsity level, he didn't anticipate both of them being plucked from 2A Skidmore-Tynan, located near Corpus Christi.
Bobby Smith, a successful baseball manager Ritchey has worked with in the past, and Adam Woolam, who brings 14 years of head basketball coaching experience with him, have been tapped to fill the vacancies left by former coaches Bert Otto and Cliff Thompson.
Howard County commissioners gave the go-ahead to sell a county-owned tract of land on the north side of Big Spring during their Monday meeting, a prospect that could have a new hotel going up in the area.
The tract of land â€” a half-block near the county's Road and Bridge Administration office in the north part of the city â€” has been the focus of attention several times in the past several months, as real estate developers have approached the court about purchasing and developing the property.
Pint-sized patriotism will be on display this July 4.
For about 40 years, the Highland July 4 Parade has shown that you don't have to be an adult to show off your love of country.
The annual parade will be held along Highland Drive beginning at 10 a.m. July 4, said Melanie Lawdermilk, parade organizer. Participants will line up at the intersection of Highland and Robb streets at 9:30 a.m., then parade west on Highland to the intersection with Goliad.
While plenty of youngsters are expected to be on hand, Lawdermilk said she needs some help from the area's grownups, as well.

â€¢ ROBERT ADAM MATA, 26, of 1511 Johnson, was arrested Monday on charges of abandonment/endangerment of a child â€“ criminal negligence, speeding, failure to appear â€“ two counts and no drivers license/ when unlicensed.
â€¢ AVEL ABREO RAMIREZ, 66, of 1512 Wood St., was arrested Monday on a charge of public intoxication.
Dennis D. Watson, 62, of Big Spring, died Saturday, June 22, 2013, in a Midland hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Park.
Dennis was born June 26, 1950, in Seminole, Okla. and married Gloria Smith Nov. 10, 1971, in Snyder. She preceded him in death Dec. 13, 2012.
Dennis graduated from Snyder High School in 1969 and was a correctional officer for Cornell Corrections. He retired in May 2008.
