Carrol Dean Yater, 78, of Stanton, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Hospice House of Odessa. At Carrol's request, there will be a private family service.
Carrol was born to John Milton and Nina Gertrude Myrick Yater August 5, 1934, in Big Spring, Texas. He married Lyn Larsen April 6, 1992, in Tarzan, Texas.
James Holt, 78, of Big Spring died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the VA Hospital. Graveside services with military honors will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview, Texas.
He was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Dallas to Susanna and Daniel Holt. He was a resident of Big Spring for 10 years, coming from Plainview. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his sister: Ruby Hart and her husband Ed of Arlington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Myrel McNew, 80, of Big Spring, died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehab. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Dr. Steven Saldivar, superintendent of Big Spring public schools, announced during Thursday's school board meeting he will resign by the end of the coming school year.
Saldivar, who has led Big Spring Independent School District since 2008, said the timing was right for his announcement.
Howard College wasnâ€™t without a head menâ€™s basketball coach for too long.
Scott Raines, who is entering his ninth year as an employee at HC, has been tapped to take over for Mark Adams, who departed after accepting the director of basketball operations position at Texas Tech University.
Raines has spent the past couple of years on the administrative side of things at Howard, but basketball is in his blood. Raines was originally hired as an assistant to Adams and has served in various coaching capacities during his time in Big Spring.
The Big Spring Senior Citizens Center has a shiny new dance floor, and officials there are eager to show it off to the public.
The center will hold a â€śgrand re-openingâ€ť dance to celebrate the new floor Friday, Aug. 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.. The dance, featuring live country-western music, is free to the public and refreshments will be served, Director MaryJo Toomire said.
A portion of the roof over the dance area collapsed under the weight of heavy snow 17 months ago, resulting in major damage to the floor, Toomire noted.
Longtime Big Spring State Hospital Superintendent Ed Moughon has announced his retirement after serving at the facility in various capacities for 25 years.
Moughon, 64, will step down at the end of the month. He has played an integral role in not only keeping the hospital in Big Spring, but turning it into a model facility.
Dale Gene Zant, 86, of New Home, Texas, left this earth July 9, 2013, to be with his Heavenly Father.
Dale was born April 13, 1927, to H.N. and Zona Zant in Clauene, Texas. He was the oldest of seven boys. He married Ethellynn Gill on Nov. 27, 1946. They were blessed with four children during their 61 years of marriage. Dale served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Belleau Wood.
Earl H. Bedell Sr., age 88, of Stacy died Wednesday morning, July 10, 2013, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the Stacy Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.
He was born June 3, 1925, in Big Spring, Texas, the son of Clay C. and Stella Mae Richardson Bedell. He grew up in Garden City where he graduated from high school. He later served in the U. S. Army. He married Betty Ringener at Big Spring on Oct. 16, 1948. He had lived in Stacy for the past 16 years, moving from Odessa.
Raellen Thompson, 73, of North Richland Hills, formerly of Big Spring, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
