Doris Marie Sadler

Doris Marie Sadler, 84, of Stanton died Friday, July 5, 2013, at her residence. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, July 8, 2013, at the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel, Stanton.

Doris was born Feb.24, 1929, in Martin County and married Billy Sadler in 1951 in Midland. He preceded her in death June 16, 1979.

Doris and Billy moved to Lubbock soon after marriage and then to the Brownfield area where they owned and operated a grain elevator. Doris also worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper for several businesses.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stanton.

Funtastic Fourth called 'success'

Celebrating Independence Day has been a long-standing tradition in Big Spring with Pops In The Park being the climax. The symphony playing songs of patriotism, a slide show honoring veterans and the fireworks display as the grand finale bring rave reviews each year.

To get everyone in a patriotic mood, the Funtastic Fourth has its place in the celebration. This year was the best to date, according to organizers.

“It was a a big success for the Downtown Revitalization Association,” said DRA vice president, Ramon Holguin.

Eugenio Martinez Arellano, 50, and wife, Maria Rodriguez Lownes, 61, of Big Spring died Monday, July 1, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. Inurnment will follow at Coahoma Cemetery.

A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, July 5, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.

Eugenio was born March 29, 1963, in Childress. Maria was born June 10, 1952, in Knott. They had been together for 22 years and were inseparable.

Robert Lee Park, 16, of Big Spring died Thursday, July 4, 2013 in a local hospital. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.

DPS releases names of wreck victims

Department of Public Safety officials have released the names of a Big Spring man and woman killed Monday afternoon when the pickup in which they were traveling struck an 18-wheel tractor trailer near the 181 mile marker of Interstate Highway 20.

Eugenio Martinez Arellano, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 5:20 p.m. by Howard County Justice of the Peace Kathryn Wiseman, according to accident records filed with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Pops in the Park celebration Wednesday

With a little more than 24 hours to go before they strike up the orchestra and light the fuse on the fireworks, Pops in the Park officials are putting the final touches on preparations for the popular event.
The 16th annual Pops in the Park Independence Day celebration, featuring music, food, fun and fireworks, is set to begin Wednesday afternoon at the Comanche Trail Park Amphitheater.

City is off limits for those who want to set off fireworks

While the risk factors for wildfires may be at its lowest point in approximately seven years, local fire officials are urging residents to be careful if they plan to include fireworks in their Independence Day celebrations, as the risk of injury is still a major concern.

According to Howard County Volunteer Fire Chief Tommy Sullivan, recent rain and favorable weather conditions have the risk level in the county at low-medium going into the holiday.
