Saturday will mark area residents' final opportunity to weigh in on municipal and school board elections, as polls open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. around the Crossroads community.
According to officials with the Howard County Elections Administrations, polls will be located at the following locations:
Coahoma Independent School District Races â Coahoma Community Center
Big Spring races â Dorothy Garrett Coliseum, on the Howard College campus
Forsan races and Precincts 205-208 â Forsan High School
Forsan Precincts 33, 304 â Elbow Elementary School
Annalise O'Connell received the President's Award as top student at SouthWest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf during the SWCID Awards Convocation Thursday evening.
The President's award is annually based on academic excellence, participation in all facets of student life, leadership in extra-curricular activities and college spirit, said Howard College President Dr. Cheryl Sparks, who presented the award.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
⢠ANTONIO JARROD MOORE, 23, of Marlin Falls, Texas, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
⢠CODY JAMES CALHOUN, 21, of 2102 S. Scurry, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for failure to maintain financial responsibility.
⢠ALFONSO GARCIA RAMOS JR., 26, of 2604 Dow, was arrested Thursday on a charge of violation of a protective order.
Jim Deel, 44, of Big Spring died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Binnix, pastor of Midway Baptist Church, officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
Jim was born Oct. 14, 1968, in Big Spring to Darrell Deel and Wanda Welch Deel. He loved to barbecue and fish. He was a great father, making the kids his whole life.
Opal Jean Magers, 80, of Big Spring died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Kristi Lee Manor Nursing Home in Colorado City. The family will receive friends 7 p.m. until 9 p.m Friday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor William T. Vaughn of Mt Bethel Baptist Church and Pastor Holston Banks of Shiloh House of Praise with burial at Trinity Memorial Park.
Billy Barber, 88, of Big Spring died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Lamun Lusk Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

The Cottage, located at 1604 W. Fourth Street in Big Spring, is home of the Howard County Master Gardeners, who will be holding their annual spring sale this weekend.
Time and date for the event is 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday.

Officials with the Texas Department of Transportation say increased awareness and caution from Lone Star motorists has contributed to a decline in motorcycle-related traffic fatalities.
According to TxDOT statistics released this month â which is recognized as Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month â 460 people died on Texas roadways while riding motorcycles and scooters in 2012, down considerably from the 2011 total.

⢠CHELSEA KRISTYNE MILLSPAUGH, 26, of 213 Circle Dr., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for theft by check â more than $20 and less than $500.
⢠ASSAULT was reported in the 4200 block of Wasson Road.
⢠BURGLARY OF A HABITATION was reported in the 500 block of Washington Blvd.
⢠HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT was reported in the 1700 block of S. Nolan.
⢠CRIMINAL MISCHIEF was reported in the 3200 block of Avenue C.
⢠THEFT was reported in the 400 block of S. Birdwell Lane.
Alvin L. Smith, 91, of Big Spring died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, in a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel. Interment will follow at Gail Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013, at the funeral home.
Alvin was born April 28, 1922, in O'Donnell, Texas, and married Opal Howell on Feb. 17, 1951, in Carlsbad, N.M. She preceded him in death Sept. 23, 1989.
