Billye June (B.J.) Crownover Rogers passed away April 11, 2013. She was born in Electra, Texas, on Oct. 24, 1930, and will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the Loraine cemetery near other members of the Crownover family. She was formerly from Big Spring and Loraine, Texas, but has most recently resided in Portland, Texas, until her death.
Byron B. Smith Jr. of Pittsburg, Texas, died April 30, 2013, in Tyler, Texas, following a short illness. He was 82 years old.
Byron Braxton Smith Jr. was born in Odessa, Texas, to Byron B. Smith Sr. and Anna Hall Smith on Jan. 23, 1931. He was the oldest of five children. The Smith family moved to Arkansas, where, at age 16, Byron enlisted in the Army. He served in the Army, then re-inlisted in the Air Force. He was a staff sergeant and a medic during the Korean War, stationed in Ashiya, Japan.
Services for Kimberly Genice Peacock, 19, a student at Tarleton State University, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Big Spring, Texas, with Father Gully officiating. Arrangements are by Lacy Funeral Home, Stephenville, Texas.
Kimberly was born in Big Spring, Texas, on Aug. 29, 1993, to Jeremy Peacock and Valorie A. Hoard. She was a member of Cottonwood Baptist Church in Dublin, Texas, and a member of Phi Mu sorority.
Ethel Louise Riley, 83, of Midland, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Survivors include daughter, Pam Rinehart and husband Snooky of Midland, Texas; two granddaughters; a grandson; and four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland.
Madrid Luene Anderson Robinson, 92, formerly of Big Spring died Thursday, May 02, 2013, at Brian Center of Statesville, N.C.
She was born Nov. 12, 1920, in Slaton, Lubbock County, Texas, and was the daughter of William Jesse and Dolly Mae Barnett Anderson. Before relocating to Statesville in 1996, she was a long-time resident of Big Spring, Texas, where she was a legal secretary for 33 years for the John A. Coffee firm and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
AUSTIN — After the first round of action at Jimmy Clay Golf Course, the Big Spring boy's golf team is sitting in sixth place with a combined score of 336.
All five Steer golfers managed to shoot in the 80s despite facing yet another day of bad weather on the links.
Tyler Bryan shot 82; Tate Kennedy and Devin Roberson each recorded 84 strokes, Ryan Pollard shot 86 and Jason Guevara rounded out the Steers with a total of 88.
SAN ANGELO — Just as its first playoff opponent, Clyde-Eula did, No. 9 ranked Eldorado jumped out to an early lead over Forsan on Thursday at Lake View High School.
The Lady Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the first after a pair of base hits and a couple of errors were committed by the Lady Buffaloes.
"I don't know why we start out that way," FHS Head Coach Shanna Taylor said with a laugh. "It could a be jitters we have to get past. But the girls never seem to get in panic mode."
Part of the reason the Lady Buffs keep their cool comes from high-intensity practices.

Howard College officials see their new agriculture complex as both a tip of the hat to this area's past and a helping hand for the future.
The college officially unveiled its G.C. Broughton Jr. Complex Wednesday, a $2.6 million facility that will not only be home to the college's agriculture department but county extension offices and the 4-H Junior Livestock Show and other events.
The complex houses three sections — an open-air pavilion, a show barn and classroom spaces — and was financed entirely by grant money from the G.C. Broughton Jr. Foundation.
Officials with the city of Big Spring say water conservation efforts during the winter and spring months have gone well, but with little rain forecasted for the coming months, mandatory restrictions are likely on the horizon for the Crossroads area.
The city is currently in Stage 2 of its Drought Contingency Plan, which requires city water customers follow a number of outdoor water use restrictions, a contrast from the mandatory restrictions the city implemented last summer.
The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• JESSICA BLANCO, 31, of 305 E. 19th St., was arrested Wednesday on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility, driving while license invalid and bail jumping – failure to appear (fine only, two counts).
• SEAN EDWARDMARBLE, 24, of 306 Rocco Rd. in Coahoma, was arrested Wednesday on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate and failure to appear.
• JOSE ALFREDO GOMEZ, 30, of 1404 E. 15th St., was arrested Wednesday on a warrant from another agency.
