Iris Imogene â€śTommyeâ€ť McGuire, 92, of Big Spring and formerly of Lamesa, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2013 in Big Spring. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 27, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Lamesa with Gerald Parsons officiating and Wayne Smith assisting. Burial will follow in Lamesa Memorial Park under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Branon Funeral Home.
Crossroad area residents will be able to splash in Saturday. Then they'll have to splash out again, if only for a week.
Splash-In at the Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. It's free â€” yep, free â€” to the public.
In the past, the event would celebrate the opening of the city pool but not this year.
Big Spring received almost an inch of rain â€” .97 according to the National Weather Service â€” from Thursday's rains.
Forecasters were calling for the possibility of more rain through Saturday night, though without the 60 mph winds and hail many residents reported this morning.
According to the weather service, Thursday's rains split the Midland-Odessa area and neither city received even a trace of rainfall.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. today:
â€˘ JOHNNY SILLOY DOUGLAS, 41, of 1007 E. 14th St., was arrested Thursday on a charge of public intoxication.
â€˘ CHRISTOPHER RIVERS JORDAN, 39, of 1602 Lincoln, was arrested Thursday on a warrant from another agency.
â€˘ CYNTHIA LORRA KENNEDY, 50, of 4900 Wasson Rd., was arrested Thursday on a citation for public intoxication.
â€˘ SCOTTY RAY BLAND, 34, of 1900 Martin Luther King Blvd. Apt. 414, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for bail jumping â€“ failure to appear and terroristic threat.
Dolores Wickline, 84, of Big Spring died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, in a Lubbock hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with the Rev. Ken McIntosh officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family received friends Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the funeral home.
Dolores was born Dec. 30, 1928, in DeLeon, Texas, and married Phillip Wickline on Sept. 3, 1949, in DeLeon. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 1975.
Marta Padron, 94, of Big Spring died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation. Vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Coahoma Cemetery.
She was born June 29, 1918, in Gonzales to Bartolita and Ruperto Cruz. She married Florencio Padron on Oct. 26, 1933, in Gonzales. He preceded her in death Sept. 26, 1978. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Gayle S. Johnson passed away Feb. 21, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. Her ashes will be interned next to her husband, Herbert Johnson Jr., on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 4 p.m. at the Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.
A native of Memphis, Texas, she met and married her husband while they were attending West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. After Herby graduated from WT, Gayle and Herby moved to Big Spring in 1949. They briefly moved to the Panhandle until their return in 1955.
Gabino Rodriguez Jr., 60, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his residence. Services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
The aquatic center so fervently embraced by Russ McEwen has officially been named in honor of the former Big Spring mayor and city councilman, who passed away in October 2012.
Russ McEwen Family Aquatic Center was formally dedicated during brief ceremonies Wednesday morning at the facility, which opened last year in Comanche Trail Park.
Early voting has been set in the June 8 runoff election to decide whether Raul Benavides or J.D. Smith will take over the District 5 seat on the Big Spring City Council.
Early voting will begin Tuesday and end a week later with all balloting to take place at the Howard County Courthouse Elections Office. Voting will be held from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Tuesday and on Tuesday, June 4. All other days, hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On election day, voting will be held at the Dorothy Garrett Coliseum East Room from7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
