The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 9 a.m. Saturday and 7 a.m. today:
â¢ JOSE CASTRO, 42, transient, was arrested Sunday on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ JACOB ALEXANDER GALAN, 23, of 1607 S. Main St., was arrested Sunday on charges of evading arrest or detention, public intoxication and shoplifting - $50 or less.
â¢ TYLER JAMES SMITH, 28, of Sweetwater, Texas, was arrested Sunday on charges of hindering officers discharging official duties and public intoxication.
Howard County commissioners will begin the process of replacing a âgreat assetâ when they meet at 10 a.m. Monday in the county courthouse's third-floor courtroom.
Commissioners will go into closed session during the meeting to discuss finding a replacement for Quail Dobbs, who is retiring after more than 14 years as Precinct 2 justice of the peace.
County Judge Mark Barr said Dobbs informed him of his decision to retire within the past two weeks.
It is possible the Howard County Junior College District Board of Trustees could have a new member as soon as Monday.
The board meets at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the student union building's Tumbleweed Room, and one of the main topics to consider will be finding a replacement for former trustee Larry McLellan, who resigned in May following his election as Big Spring mayor.

â¢ TIFFANY ANN ELDER, 31, of 3614 Parkway, was arrested Friday on charges of criminal trespass of a habitation or shelter, three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while license invalid, defective head lamps, failure to appear and a warrant for criminal trespass from another agency.
â¢ KENNETH CLARK SMITH, 26, of 17900 S. HWY 87, was arrested Friday on a charge of reckless driving.
William Mac Statham, 65, of Big Spring, died Friday, June 7, 2013. His services are pending at Myers & Smith Funeral Home.
Berry Cox, 66, of Garden City, died Friday, June 7, 2013 at his residence. His services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Big Spring.
Karl Wayne Platte was born Dec. 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl died June 1, 2013. He was 32 years of age.
He moved with his family to Dora, N.M. in 1986 and eventually to Shattuck, Okla., where he graduated as co-valedictorian in 1999. He then continued his education at N.W. Oklahoma State University in Alva, where he graduated with a bachelorâs degree in education. Following graduation he took his first job as a coach.
He married Brandie Lea Long Sept. 14, 2002.
While Howard College officials are disappointed in not receiving more state money this year, they are celebrating a new funding process they believe will stabilize funding for the institution.
Barring a last-minute change of heart from Gov. Rick Perry, state appropriations to the Howard County Junior College District will remain roughly the same as last year.
Anyone over the age of 50 would probably look back on the idea of having to attend summer school and shiver â and, to be honest, no student of any era relishes the idea of attending classes when everyone else is goofing off â but the focus of summer classes has changed significantly over the years.

â¢ VICTOR RAYMOND DOMINGUEZ, 37, 1425 E. Sixth No. 19, was arrested on a charge of public intoxication.
â¢ PEDRO RIVERA APONTE, 54, 1305 Nolan, was arrested on warrants for expired motor vehicle inspection certificate, failure to control speed, two counts of failure to appear and a warrant from another agency.
â¢ JENNIFER DEANN CATE, 30, Forsan, was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
â¢ JOSHUA NATHANIEL MILLER, 36, 2623 Hunter, was arrested on a warrant from another agency.
