Gary Lynn Goswick, 58, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas.

Gary was born on Aug. 14, 1954, to Una and Lester Goswick in Big Spring. He married Gina on April 14, 1993, in Midland.

Police investigating Wednesday shooting

Law enforcement officials say it's unclear if the early Wednesday morning shooting that sent a Big Spring man to the emergency room was an accident or a suicide attempt, as the investigation into the shooting continues.

Robert Diaz, 30, of Big Spring was transported to the emergency room at Scenic Mountain Medical Center shortly after the incident, which was reported to law enforcement at approximately 6:37 a.m.

Eagles BBQ Fest to benefit Scottish Rite Hospital

Good food and a good cause will intersect Saturday when the Big Spring Eagles Lodge holds its second annual BBQ Fest.

Lodge members will serve barbecue meals with all the fixings beginning at noon Saturday to benefit the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children in Lubbock.

Last year's inaugural event raised $5,000 for the hospital.

Plates will be sold for $10 each, and will include barbecue, potato salad, cole slaw, beans, bread and a drink. All proceeds from the event will go to Scottish Rite and any additional donations will be gratefully accepted, Moran said.

The Big Spring Police Department reported the following activity between 7 a.m. Wednesday and 7 a.m. today:
• BRENNA LE'DAE HILL, 21, of 601 W. 15th St., was arrested Wednesday on a charge of public intoxication.
• LYDIA MARIE HERNANDEZ, 19, of 1519 Wood, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of disorderly conduct – language.
• LUCAS ANTHONY LOPEZ, 18, of 2517 Albrook Dr., was arrested Wednesday on warrants for possession of marijuana – two ounces or less.
• RICKIE DELL HAIR, 39, of 1007 S. Nolan, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of driving while license suspended/invalid – no insurance.

Ernie Paul, 44, of Kingfisher, Okla., formerly of Big Spring died Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Kingfisher, Okla. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Peace Chapel at Trinity Memorial Park.

He will lie in state at the funeral home beginning Friday, June 7, 2013.

Ernie was born Jan. 30, 1969, in Big Spring. He had worked as a roughneck all his life and followed the jobs wherever they would take him.

Trade Days returns to Stanton

STANTON — At least three times a year, this sleepy West Texas hamlet becomes the epicenter of the shopping world, as Old Sorehead Trade Days swells the downtown area with thousands people.

City officials say a wide array of vendors — hawking everything from antiques to the latest fashions — will descend on the town this Saturday and Sunday.

Organizers say, however, it's the food that draws many Crossroads residents to the event.

Get your thumb green at gardening classes

Whether it's learning how to turn a chair into a floral arrangement or maximizing outdoor water usage at your home, the Howard County Master Gardeners have some ideas they want to share with you.

The club will begin its annual summer session of Saturday classes this week, officials said. All classes will be at the club's Green Thumb Cottage, 1604 W. Fourth (between Jones and Brown streets) at 10 a.m.
In the first class, attendees will learn how to create a garden planter chair similar to the one the club offered as a prize at its recent Spring Plant Sale.

• CALVIN JACOB LAWSON, 29, of 3701 La Junta, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of burglary of a habitation with intent to commit other felony.
• DANIEL JOSEPH DAWDY, 20, of 1425 E. Sixth St. Apt. 4, was arrested Tuesday on charges of expired motor vehicle inspection certificate, speeding and expired registration.
• MICHAEL LEE MARBEITER, 38, of 2626 Hunter Dr., was arrested Tuesday on a charge of possession of a controlled substance.
