Mary Paredez, 86, of Big Spring, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Heartland Nursing Home in San Antonio, Texas. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Mount Olive Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Jerline Averitt, 87, of Big Spring, Texas, died Friday Jan. 17, 2014, at her residence. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Myers and Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Chapel with Eddy Prince of Grace Fellowship Church of God officiating. Burial will be at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel.

Dorothy Stephens, 82, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at Abilene Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in the Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove, Texas. Ray Boles will officiate. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.

Dorothy was born June 22, 1931, in Muddig, Texas, to Oscar and Ida Mae (Baker) Boles. She attended East Texas State in Commerce, Texas, before receiving her master’s degree from the University of Utah.

January 31 deadline to pay taxes sans penalty

Time is running out for property owners wishing to pay their tax bills without incurring penalties.

Homeowners have until Jan. 31 to pay their tax bills without penalties or interest, said Diane Carter, Howard County tax assessor/collector.
